Hi everybody,
As I read through all the different posts on the Café I see pro's and hobbiests and lurkers and regular folks. For me magic has been a great friend and hobby since I was eight years old (way back in 1969) when I checked out a magic book from the library. I'm not a working pro, I don't have regular gigs but I perform whenever called upon, sometimes for $$$ sometimes not. When I retire from 'day job' as a technical customer service rep for a large company, I plan on doing magic forever. I'll bet this the Café has just about every profession imaginable represented. I am curious, what is your "day job"? -Brian |

Civil engineer and Ryan I know what steel detailers are. Infact I used to manage a group of them. They were extremely hard to find.

TV newscast director. Fun job. Pays very well, and being in L.A. I bump into my fair share of famous folk.

Magician/balloon artist......when I had a real job I used to fix commercial kitchen equipment. Before that I was a welder and prior to that I was in the U.S. Army where I learned to weld.

Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

It's not an easy way to make a living, but it pays the bills. We are extremely hard to find now and not many young people are getting into it. I am only 26, but have been detailing for 10 years, I got a long way to retirement. |

For one more day, I'm a Quality Control Technician for an asphalt plant. Beginning Monday, I will be an Assistant Project Manager for a local contracting company. Before I accepted the job at the contracting company, I interviewed for a job as a detailer for a metal building company. Both jobs sounded great, but ultimately, the contractor paid a bit more money, and I gotta think of my kids.

It's better to have a job that you love and make less money than a job you hate and make more money. I have done both and am quite content on where I am. Beats weaving baskets for a living like I used to do (Longaberger) Phil
