What resources are there online for finding inspiration for balloon hats? I know of balloon HQ but the problem I find there is, the plain text descriptions of the models is a bit muddy and not easy to follow. Anything with, dare I say it, pictures?

The Inflatable Crown Balloon Hat Book is wonderful! 450 pictures of balloon hats as they travel the world! By Addi Somekh and Charlie Eckert. It comes with balloons and a hand pump at all of the local book stores in the U.S. but I am sure T Myers sells it. There are also Balloon hat videos but I perfer books when learning balloons.
These are creative crazy hats, I love the tiara! Not the book if your looking for specific hats, like fireman, but it may very well encourage you to create one! It's under $20.00 too!

I too love to create balloon hats! In fact that is my preference when I'm working with kids, less likely to drop to the ground and break, etc. I found a video by Sandi Masori, Seriously Crazy Hats, to be very useful. I've used many of her ideas and she also had guests appear on the video making their specialty, Ken Stillman's Hitch hiker hat, Lorna Paris' Snake hat, Don Caldwell does a really cute elephant. There's humor as well as instruction throughout. Norm Barnhart has a book on hats available thru T Myers. I've also been able to get ideas from looking at Ralph Dewey's portfolio on Balloon HQ. Even though the instructions leave something to be desired, the photo gallery is great! Good luck on your quest!

I would strongly recomend not making any type of hats or crowns anymore. Do not put any balloons on anyones head.
I have heard recently that Balloonist have been being sued latly for making balloon hats. The hat would pop on the childrens heads and "destroy" there hearing. It does not matter how soft you make the hats. The kind of people that would sue for somthing like that would make sure it happens. All they are looking for is a quick buck. ~Adam Michael |

You might want to check into getting an insurance policy. Clowns and magicians have been doing it for some time.

ML,
For online resources checkout the balloon forum at mbd2.com There is a lot of info available for all to see, and if you make a donation to the site, they make another part of the forum available, which contains a wealth of information. Included are hat designs of all types. |

Well I might suggest my DVD.
It is called “Bad To The Balloon Issue #1” Preview the opening here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNXzX4tMBI4 Bad To The Balloon follows a renegade biker balloon artist (Mark Byrne) as he teaches how to make balloons cool. His goal in creating balloon hats is to make them fast and make them great. Most hats take 45 seconds to 2 minutes to create. There is a detailed twist menu for beginners. If you can make a decent teddy bear, you can do most of the balloons on this DVD!! Intermediate and advanced twisters will love the flow and ease of this learning style. Unlike any other balloon DVD filmed, it has original music and location shots for each figure. Filmmaker Jason Jeter (Devotion Pictures) & Mark Byrne (Funny Money Productions)have done the impossible... a balloon DVD you won’t fall asleep watching!! From the opening sequence to the last sculpture, they guarantee you will be impressed. Includes instructions to make: Shark • Dolphin • Mermaid • Surfer • Tiki • Duck • Gator • One-Eyed Monster • Pirate • Tower • Swan • Dragon contact me if your interested or go to TMeyer, La Rocks, or any magic Dealer and ask for it available through Murphy's Magic very soon.

What do you guys and gals think of Adam's comment recommending to never make a balloon hat for fear of popping and causing hearing damage?
One death related balloons accident is one too many, but are these stories real or urban legends. Doc |

Wow getting sued for a balloon hat??
Can it happen? I guess will it hold up in court? Doubt it. Yes people sue for everything... but I am not going to stop doing what I know brings joy to thousands of people because of one *-hole. I also take great umberage to the choking hazard myth. I have looked over the data and to my knowledge no child has ever choked on a 260 balloon. Yes there has been deaths over rubber gloves, mylar ballloons with strings (you know the safe balloons) Same arguement for animals and enviromental impact all myths!!! Balloon artist please educate your self in what your product is what it is made of and how it impacts life.

I'm getting ready to order Twisted Critters volume 1 and am a little annoyed that I can't find a 3-for discount on the series. Has anyone found such a deal?

Sorry, I now realise just how crass my post was. I got excited when I saw her hats and was trying to round up the $ to get all 3. After searching the web, I was more frustrated with my lack of disposable income than with her pricing.
Thanks for keeping me on the level gents! I certainly plan on buying all three. However, it'll have to be incremental. I'll sneak them into my budget with my balloon orders. Sorry again for putting the bad mojo on this thread. Chad |
