Bicycle Playing Cards – My Review
Well, what can I say? They’re cards. I’m really writing this to tell any beginner (or not) magician that still uses some old cards they found lying around, that they should buy these. Just get a few packs of regular bikes (rider back) because 99% of “packet tricks” will use that design. Also, compared to my old cards that I used to use, these are perfection Pros > So many tricks are made with these in mind > They are high quality > Cards of choice for so many magicians and card players > Help if trying to avoid claims of a gimmicked deck, as everyone knows the design (they don’t realise we know this and that we make most gaffed decks with this design) Cons > There are better cards on the market > Some people sell them really expensive |

It is not the cards that eliminate the possibilities of gimmick decks, it is the magician.

Bicycle cards enhance magicians' sleight-of-hands like beacon on a cheeseburger.

I think bacon flavored Bikes is what we should be talking about.... or maybe it's just late.

Because of the reasons you've listed above, I always trying to get the bicycle brand deck even it's so difficult to find in my country... there's few magic store here that sells bicycle deck, but the price is almost $10 each!

Holy crow! I have no magic shops here so I get my stuff off the internet. But I get my cards from Costco because you can get them there for like a 2 bucks each (10.00 for a box of six) And when I go there, I get a few boxes, and they last me forever. I use my cards till thay are ripped, bend, and half of them are gone, unlike most magicians I can live with the problems they have to give when they are overdue. So I only go thru about a deck a month. I have 12 decks now, so I am good for the rest of the year. By the way, If you are a beginner using decks you find around the house, definatly get some Bikes, they will be worth your time, you will se what I mean when you get them...

I started learning card tricks by using a bycicle..it was a gift from an unknown magician..since then I have been using only bikes and I got a tally-ho deck from one of the tricks I bought..i couldn't get to do one trick comfortably!it is not that the tally-ho is poor quality but I think I have trined my hand towards bycicle too much that I don't feel so comfortable with other decks..same goes to poker size and bridge size..so I think it was a mistake from the beggining!i should try in all sorts of cards and get used to some of the popular..so if someone hands you a deck and ask you to perform you wont have so much of a trouble!

I do not always use Bikes.
I like Bees. I also like plastic invisible cards(about $6 a deck.) I am happy to use whatever I can get my hand on. Peace, Parson

Learn some tricks that you can do with a stack of saltines, then you can do absolutely impromptu tricks with any cards. Do your magic with the cards you like, than you can create magic. The best of both worlds!
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Great advice from Josh! If you can only do tricks with a brand new deck of Bicycle cards, one day, someone's going to hand over their deck of stained, sticky, frayed cards they got from some beer company, they're going to ask you to do a trick, and you're going to have to disappoint them.

I know you weren't serious about sticky and meant well-used, maybe mismatched, etc. but my point is that just because we entertain doesn't mean that we must always entertain. |

The make is really irrelevent - the magician is not!!
People get overly hung up on the make of cards (no offence, but usually beginners/ellusionist fans 'dude, these tiger cards RULE!!' Please) Ah well. Simon |

If you do magic with their cards....well that's magic! So, I still believe it's well worth learning to do some tricks which don't rely on the cards being in pristine condition. Many so-called "self-working" tricks fall nicely into this category. |

I, too, think that we need to be able to use whatever is at hand.

Bicycle is a fairly good quality of card. Years ago it was not the standard for magic. That title was reserved for another deck produced by the U.S. Playing card company, Aviator. If you look at some of the work Harry Loraine does on the L&L video series, you will see him using Aviators.
All packet tricks, all gaffed cards were Aviator design, many produced by Haines House of Cards under the Fox Lake Brand. Times and tastes change, now Bicycle has surpassed Aviator as the nations number one card, and so have the packets and so have the gaffs. (Although I still can't find MIKO in bikes). A few years ago I did a survey of magicians on preferred cards and Red backed Bicycles won handily. You can probably still find that survey if you google it under groups. Despite Elusionists attempts at making them in strange and exotic colors, Bikes, especially red backed will likely reign for the next twenty years. Until the fickle tastes of the American public places yet another brand in prominence. Frank Tougas

I think if someone knows that your a magicain and you won't perform an effect for someone without your cards,or a certain brand of cards. This may look unfavorable upon the magician. As suppose to a magicain who can perform inprompto.
