Jeff McBride, Lance Burton, David Copperfield, and Cyril Takayama are probably my favorite magicians.

Hey Stanyon
I lost touch with Jeff many years ago when I was performing in Bit O Magic. He came in. He had a problem with his act in the fact that the doves he used made him sick some how. I knew Jeff like you when he was just starting out. In fact I met him when he came into the magic shop at old Chicago with a copy of Bill Tarr's book "Now you see it now you don't". And he asked me if it was a good book. He got it at the bookstore in the mall. Then he came in for ideas and advice on magic. Learned fast. I had Dad hire him for the shop. He worked for us for a while then got a job in the magic show in the amusement park. Then went to the Chavez school and learned a great old school manipulation act. Later went on to work an ice show and cruse ships. Well he told me that he had an allergy to the doves in his act and was looking for new ideas to replace the doves. That was the last time I saw him. I hope he is doing well and perhaps we will meet him one day in the Café. As we were able to hook up.

Bishthemagish,
Your Chicago is showing in your list....I'm from Chicago, also. Everyone from Chicago was influenced in some way by Don Alan. Mr. Ash, Ken Mate, Ernie Spence, Heba Haba Al, and Bill Malone are the locals I remember when I first started out in the early 80's. I had been in your father's shop several times.....I didn't know him too well, but he just seemed to be a really great person...genuine, honest, and helpful. He wouldn't sell something just to make a sale. He wanted to make sure it was something that would be good for the person. I wish I could have seen him perform. All time favourite would have to be Michael Close. |

My scope is more limited than some others here, but performance-wise my favorites are Lennart Green, Richard Osterlind, and Gregory Wilson.
Michael Ammar and Daryl are great teachers, and very good in their own right... Mike
