I have been thinking about a bizarre effect.
Draw a figure of a man (this man represents you) on a piece of paper and hand it to the spectator with a long pin, tell them to roll the paper into a ball and stick the pin through it. When the pin is stuck through the ball, tell them to twist the pin around and at the same time you start flinching and appear to be in pain. They look at you and your right shoulder starts bleeding through your shirt. they pull the paper off the pin and when they unroll it they see that they have stuck the pin through your right shoulder. Probably not good for kids shows?? |

Very good, Graydon, very good.
Consider the great story line that can be crafted around this! cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

Except that this (minus the blood) has already been thought of: It's in T.A. Waters Mind Myth and Magick. It's called Pinance

But if you could really do this, would you make yourself the victim and injure yourself??
What are you supposed to be, a dumb dark wizard? A malevolent masochist? Just a thought. Paul. |

A proper story line like Burger's "Retribution" would solve the problem of why you are the victim. But now the question to ask is, why is the spectator inflicting the injury on you?

GREAT NEW IDEA!!
Here is a new twist to the story. When the spectator pull the paper off the pin he now finds his right shoulder bleeding. Stick the pin back and the magician starts bleeding. The magic can keep going on and on and .... Cheers!!!

Yes Phanthomas. That will be another twist to the story line. Great!!! It seems a new effect is about to take shape.

Just a mild word of caution. I have found it very suprising just how many people have a phobia about the sight of blood, or faint at it, or just can't stand it. It's not as rare as I thought, and the fact that it's just good-looking 'stage' blood seems to make no difference. So before I present my 'psychic surgery' routine I always include plenty of advance warning so that those who can enjoy it will do, and those who can't can look elsewhere or excuse themselves for a minute. Always a precaution worth taking, and those who have this problem will appreciate your consideration.

I totally agree with Ian here...when we used to do psychic surgeries (blood, worms, ..)or hard side-show stunts, we marked the area of perfoming ..."no children - no heart-disease suffering persons - everyone has to know if he wants to see such things and has to take responsibility of himself!!! etc.etc."
IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT! People faint faster than you can see them falling...and side show stunts are sometimes so emotional involving that the other material you present them (mind reading..) will unluckily fade away in their minds... They only talk about the nail in the nose..the blood - the block head stunt..the swallowing off the mouse... YOU have to decide what YOU want people to remember...(for me it was hard to exit the side-show rumours and to find my entry back into their minds with "smoother" material. It took a long time to get rid of it. phanthomas |

I do not know, but why not have the tip of a spear come tear through your right shirt, jacket tip with a spot of blood. I am not 100% sure how one would accomplish this, but I am thinking a long the lines of the same method that would be use to have the blood come appear on command. As you would a only need about 6 inches to get you point across (ok bad pun), it would not be out of the realm of possible thought to contrust such a device, with items alreay on the market.
I do not know, just me thinking out loud before class. Kevin |

And to finish why not have your head spin around and spew green vomit on the audience?
Are we talking believability here or just shock horror gross out. Sometimes, less is more. Mary Tomich has a nice little voodoo doll supplied with her Pintagram routine. And I always liked Al Spackman's Voodoo routine. Paul. |

Not knowing anything about Voodoo, I still wonder why you never hear of 'Feel Good Voodoo'. It's always pain or bleeding and never something that is pleasant feeling. ;-))

Hey, why stop at one mutilation? Have the spectator hold a lighter near the picture and you start to smoke up as if about to catch fire. He might even set part of the picture on fire and a burst of flame shoots out of your hand via Hand Dragon or Kikuchi Fire. Cuts off a digit and one falls off... Meir Yedid trickery. He could twist the picture within his hands and you could suddenly be able to twist your hand in a 360 while it's on the table... Meir Yedid again.
Just thinking.
