Eric, I need your help again with my How-To notes and photos stuff you emailed back to me. The old 'puter I was limping along on croaked as well and all was lost AGAIN...this time the power supply just gave out and since it didn't have that much on it and so that I wouldn't bother fixing it (AGAIN!) I drop kicked the friggin' piece of you know what down the hill. (felt really good!)
--------------- So now I'm back on the other old lame'puter (I'm going to have a new one built to my specs) that originally croaked which I will drop kick as well eventually. Funny thing is, I was starting to transfer all the recent emails to a disc when it bailed out. So anyway (and to all)...it will be awhile till I can update the sites and any info there, till I can get all my software re-downloaded (again for the umteenth time) so just eMail me. All those who re-contacted me will have to do it again...and this time I'm writing down on paper the info as it comes in. Because of the week PLUS in computer hell and working on that crap (all for nothing it turns out)...I'm behind in the stuff that's really important but will get Zibits and DMs out as required. Anyone has any deadlines I need to beat, let me know...(Kondini excluded...I know about yours!) Horror Show: Microsoft & Computer Haters Anon...I'm about to join....when doing a FULL restore on 'this' computer after getting it fixed (ha!) I put the windows discs in to restore the operating system (winXP) and wipe the drive etc. Well heres a tip...when doing that...DON'T put in the supplemental discs. Man oh man...they dropped in so much spy junk and a cute little ditty called 'Messinger Service' which allows 'advertisers' to alert you to their garbage about every 10 to 15 seconds (literally!) with little windws that pop up alerting you to possible Virus..."55 errors in your registry!" etc...annoying and dangerous is not the word. These were spammer sites BUT adaware and spybot etc. will NOT find them...luckily (VERY) the 1st thing I put on this 'puter was Tuneup 2006 and it found them in the registry and allowed me to check OFF the 'Windows Messenger Service' which is a nightmare. So beware of those supplimental discs...also windows has made a deal with a wonderful (NOT!)company Alexa that absorbs your info in order to HELP you be a better consumer...adaware dosen't really do the job but Spybot will put in a dummy file to confuse this mess of a problem and it won't bother you any more. You will get this downloaded when you do Windows UPDATES so scan for it and be aware! I don't know how anyone who doesn't have computer smarts can operate these days with all the junk that comes packaged in the system from 'legit' sources. The most horrible things we can concieve of in bizarre magic can't hold a candle to windows. (All because I'm too lazy to learn a new sytem like Apple). Thanks all...and appologies for being late or not in contact...just a one man shop and nearly worn out to boot...or re-boot. By the way...I do NOT have a mail client currently installed (I deleted that awful Outlook joke) so am doing all mail on the web server...this will keep it safe and available in case this 'puter dumps again. D Doug

Progress at last! (at least so far)...did some drastic DE-programing and have the 'puter running mean and LEAN at top speed and handleing all tasks at peak. I know it will have a surprise for me (or 2) eventualy but at least now I can get off the machine & back to work at the bench makin' 'uglies'. Eewww.
One thing I figured out...'when in doubt, DELETE'! Maybe it was just dumb luck but I ran out of stuff to delete...and it worked.

Doug,
I completely sympathize, my friend -- I used to be there. Windows SUX! If you would only make the small leap to Mac, you would be quickly rewarded by NO more of these problems. Mac OS X is so easy and simple to learn, and any problems with viruses, crashes, etc, would only exist in the past! It is such an elegant system. New eMacs are fairly inexpensive, but even later model used iMacs are a great bargain in terms of getting rid of hardware/software headaches... Any other Mac evangelists want to chime in and help get our talented friend on the right road..? Seth |

Ahhh, the Mac! pure joy- they tell me at work soon I will have to turn to the dark side.
How I remember the days I used to curse the the idea that I had to open the application in windows before it would open my document- Mac had the better idea of click the document and it qauto launcehed the application- Hey, windows finally does that now! And with a Mac, there really is not much to learn, it is very intuitive. The biggest issue is that the third party support is very limited. I can say that if you are working graphics, Mac still blows windows out of the water! I think the only time have opened a MAC case was to put in more memory. Wish I could sasy the same for the IBM pos! I am an absolute brain surgeon on those beasts always have to tinker their hardware.(that sounds so.....;} ) Kay (Mac Baby)

I detest the PC and I hate Windoze. I have never had a Mac, but I used to have an Amiga, which was not too different, until it died. I got the PC because of the software available for it. I would much prefer a Mac -- maybe next time.

Windows makes your super gigahertz machine run like a 286. My Amiga ran at 7 MHz, which I jiggered up to 14 MHz, and it was fast enough. The graphics interface was built in, not tacked on as an afterthought (to compete with the Mac and Amiga at that time). I agree that no system is perfect, and I can live with my PC, but I still long for those Amiga days.
Ulp! This is really inappropriate, isn't it?

Well even Steve Jobs has realized the Motorola chips are a slow road to nowhere. My first 3 computers were Macs and after that I have built my own PCs. It is a Windows world. Apple computers have faired better stability-wise because they have maintained a Stalin-like control over hardware and software. Because they are now moving to PC chips and motherboards, clever people are porting OSX to PC. If Jobs would see the writing on the wall, he would offer OSX as a real alternative to Windows. I bet on day 1 it would out do Linux and all other systems combined to become number 2 and start to take market share from Windows. It is the only real alternative application-wise. I know I would buy it. Apple could still continue to make their computers as there will always be market for their quality and they can be a driving force in standards for technology.
