I to am having trouble cutting to exactly 26 cards. However I find that I'm only off by 1 or two cards. So what I do is I place on packet on top of the other, as if to start to weave the cards. I feel the faces of the cards with my forefinger and can tell if I'm perfect or off by 1 or two cards. Then I either take or add a card to the top packet.

I'll try to make this short, but it IS by sight..just don't expect the two halves to LOOK even. I found out early that one side always looked a little bit heavy. That it, it looked as if it had 1-2 more cards. Once I got the figured out I got to the point where I could cut at 26 every time I needed to. I have talked to others and all had the same experience. So watch for how the two halves look WHEN you know you are at 26. Best,

Are you sure Brad? Well I am using this method too, but watching Richard Turner doing his increadible tabled faros, while he is talking with spectators and cutting so fast that a short comparision wouldn't be possible makes me belive in pure touching.

+ Richard Turner is blind, so I don't think he can do it by sight, lol

Yeah, Rich is 'legally' blind. He has some sight. Here's the deal. Can you cut by feel to 26...Totally! But, it will take hours and hours and hours of practice. Understand that Rich is a practice freak. He can't stop.
If you really want to do world class table faros set aside like a year or two. Depends on how much practice a day. I would a lot at least 1 hour. Just do it over and over and over. And, then the work at getting your table faro with the riffle so that it looks as if you are actully 'riffling' the shuffle....oh, man, is that harder than it looks to make it look natural! Best,

WOW, Brad said something that I never heard before, but is completely true for me.
The two halves DON'T look the same. I can do pretty decent faros, and I can cut at 26 most of the time. When I'm off I'm usually off by one and I can see it right away. But the two halves do not look the same. When I do it, I cut the top half with my right hand and the top half always looks like it's a card or two heavy. Must be an optical illusion, But it's true for me. Also, if you don't hit it perfectly, you can tell when you butt the ends together before you even start to faro them. I agree that for me the best way to learn was by setting the deck up in order and cutting to the correct card. That way I could just practice the shuffle and not worry about cutting right at 26. As I got better at doing the shuffle, the cutting just kind of came along eventually. Vandy

Vandy: I learned to do a perfect faro like 25+ years ago and noted the difference in the 'look' of the two halves. I think you're right, I think it's a kind of optical illusion because when you do the cut, one half is generally slightly closer...or maybe it has to do with using a dominant hand. I really don't know, but I noticed it once I started to get the cut correct. It's very odd actually and is anti-intuitive to the max. I had to fight against disallowing what I was seeing in order to get the cut correct. BEst,

Listen.. if you can do a faro 95-100% of the time. you can cut 26 cards. just get that weave down first. theres no training to see 26. when you can do it consistantly, then you can cut 26.
trust me |
