Greetings fellow magi.
I recently saw an amazing piece of number magic performed over here in the wet UK.
A grid of squares, a chosen number from a spectator, a few frantic seconds of scribbling by the magician, and all the squares now have numbers written in them.
BUT, all 4 corners add up to the spectators number, lines horizontally/ vertically/ diagonally add up etc...any group of 4 squares add up etc.....quite astounding, to me, at least.
Any ideas as to it's availability?
Many thanks.

What you have seen is called a Magic Square, and I can do no better than point you at my own website, as this is a bit of a speciality of mine.

You will find some interactive Magic Squares, references to lots of books (including my own), links to other websites, and more.

Happy hunting!

I recommend Mark's website: it's excellent.
There are 10 kinds of people: those who understand binary numbers, and those who don't.

If you can track it down, Bert Allerton's book on close-up magic has an excellent chapter on magic squares.

Thanks,
