G'day All,

I know this question has been posted a lot, and I have gone through a large amount of the posts on this subject in this forum, but I wish to pose it in a different fashion.

I have read the statement “I have small hand” from quite a few magicians, but how small is there perception of small? Everone who has said it to me (In person) has had bigger hands them myself.

So my Question is "what are your measurements?" Using the left hand, here is how I have measured, also round the number in point fives of a cm. eg .0/1/1.5/2/2.5/etc

1. From where your wrist to the bottom of you middle finger. (Mine is 9.5cm)
2. From the left to the right of your palm. (Mine is 8cm)
3. Little finger length. (Mine is 6cm)
4. Ring finger length. (Mine is 7cm)
5. Middle finger length. (Mine is 7.5cm)
6. Index finger length. (Mine is 7cm)
7. Thumb length. (Mine is 6.5cm)

Thanks for your help,
Mike

OK, seeing how I think my hand is small (well, parts anyway)

1. From were your wrist to the bottom of you middle finger. (Mine looks like 10cm)
2. From the left to the right of your palm. (RIght around 8cm too)
3. Little finger length. (Mine is 4.5cm)
4. Ring finger length. (Mine is 6.5 cm)
5. Middle finger length. (Mine is 8 cm)
6. Index finger length. (Mine is 7cm)
7. Thumb length. (Mine is 5cm)

Now, what is the length from the thumb knuckle to the tip? Without rolling the tip around (to get to the nail), mine is about 2.75 cm, rounding to the nail it's 4.

I think that my thumb is my biggest (or is smallest) problem seeing how a poker card is over 6cm wide, how to you do a fan, palm or much else with a thumb that is really less the 3cm...

When you wrote “The length from my thumb knuckle to the tip” did you just mean the end appendage? If so, mine is 3.5cm. Round to the nail is 4cm.

I am assuming that when you wrote “how do you do a fan“ you meant a one handed fan. I personally find that fanning is as much to do with my other fingers and my palm, as it is to do with my thumb. I use them all in conjunction to get the largest fan possible for my hand size.

If you meant a thumb fan, I only hold the deck with the smallest amount of my thumb as possible. The reason for this is so the cards don’t get caught on my palm in the last section of the fan. I don’t know if I have answered the last bit correctly. If I have misunderstood you, just let me know.

Thanks Mr. Flourish, yes I was speaking of the thumb fan, the cards always get caught on my palm, well, the thumb pad, no matter how far out on the thumb I hold them.

As far as the measurement goes, I would say the tip (@3.5 for you 2.75 for me).

Thanks,
Dave

My tape measure isn't metric, so I assume I don't have fingers.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Corey,
Those aren't hands. Those are feet.
"Hands like meat hooks." I once heard it said...

1. 10.5 cm
2. 9 cm
3. 7 cm
4. 8 cm
5. 8 cm
6. 7.5 cm
7. 7 cm
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.

Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
-can ne'er come down again.

Haha, very funny guys... I am sure by now that you can imagine how hard it is for me to find gloves for winter. Even when I was little it was difficult. I have big feet too. I wear an 18 in nike and rebok and a 14 in every thing else. I also wear a size 16 ring. Oh and one more thing on my hands, I can classic palm 2 decks of cards out of their box.

If I knew how to make that crazy bug-eyed smiley, that's exactly what would be here.

1. From where your wrist to the bottom of you middle finger. 9.5
2. From the left to the right of your palm. 8.0
3. Little finger length. 5.6
4. Ring finger length. 7.0
5. Middle finger length. 7.4
6. Index finger length. 6.5
7. Thumb length. 5.7

All measured palm-side.

A card is 8.8 x 6.3. Too bad a palm is from side-of-pinkie to side-of-index finger (with fingers adjusted to have all windows closed) rather than actually the width of your palm! I just measured and in that case it's 6.1 though its admittedly quite difficult to measure accurately. Thank god for angles!

I wrestled some in Highschool. But in Pro wrestling is where I discovered my huge hands come in handy.

I am v. interested in coin magic, but I feel my hands are quite thin, and hence, don't have enough muscles to pull off a classic palm... does anyone else have this problem? or does persistency and practice really make this palm technique look more realistic?

my measurements are (all in cm):
1. 10
2. 8
3. 6.25
4. 7.5
5. 8
6. 7.5
7. 7
