I am looking to letter up my van/suv - or even digitally wrap it ... but was wondering if any one had any great ideas .. what would look good on a truck... I was thinking a hologram, maybe one of those optical illusions, or a 3d magic eye poster type deal .. I was thinking maybe just having a whole truck covered in cards...
any cool ideas ? 1. if you had an unlimited beget what custom car would you make for promotion as a daily driver (like the bat mobile but magic related) 2. you have a fixed reasonable budget what would be cool to have on a truck? Ryan |

Boy, I can see the headlines now…
MAGICIAN’S OPTICAL ILLUSION TRUCK HYPNOTIZES OTHER DRIVERS CAUSING MASSIVE ACCIDENT! Now that I have that out of my system…I think a Magic Eye could really wow them, at least the ones who could see it, not very good at speed. I think you would want something big and easy to read, a truck filled with cards doesn’t say much without words (and there goes the cards). Remember you want people to know who you are, what you do and how to contact you. Some flash is good, but too much is blinding. Just my thoughts, Dave |

I agree. As a designer, you want your graphics to read quickly as it must read in the same fast few seconds as a billboard has to read. In billboard design, the billboard must be able to be fully read and understood in under 4-5 seconds for it to be successful. You will want your vehcile graphics and marketing to do the same for you.
You certainly want to stay away from anything that would be a hazard to other drivers. optical illusions would not be reccomended nor would any type of magic eye picture for the reason I just mentioned. As Dave stated nicely above, you need to have something that brands you and means something to what you do and what you offer to your clients that is unique to you and different then your competitors. Thanks guys...I know what's ideal.. I was talking hypothetically ...
What would you do if you could.. I realize about safety and other drivers and short time frames for messaging. But rather than just posting same basic thing ... what would be cool to see not in theory (simple small text) but as in what would you put if you were doing it aside from obvious basic calls to action! From a purely wish list perspective - I'd like to have holographic windows so that everytime anyone looked they'd see a van full of rabbits with a large rabbit in a tux driving. Little rabbits would be peering our of the back window and waving at the cars behind.
On another note, I've always thought it would be fun to recreate the Ghostbuster's 1966 Caddy ambulance as a Gutbuster's Comedy Response Vehicle...then creating a golf cart or minicar version and use it as a backdrop for my street performing. I've been toying with doing something like this with the PT Cruiser or Chevy HHR...but using an authentic classic '66 Caddy ambulance just appeals to me for some reason. Another thought...If I had the money, I'd like to have a custom built VW or PT stretch Limo. I'd pull up to the party or club as the chauffer, climb into the back and emerge from the back door as the performer. Goofy thoughts...but sometimes, your arrival and departure are as important as the show itself. Ah...Boys and their toys! Skip :o)

If you get the chance, look at Michael Baker's van. It is a stage complete with a spotlight! (Michael is on The Magic Café in his real name.)

Hey Ryan,
Just to give a different point of view, you may consider not doing anything to your van. When we expanded our show to include stage props, we bought a cargo trailer to tow behind our van. I spoke to a number of my entertainer friends about how best to sign it and where could I go to have a good job done. The majority of them advised against it and bagen to tell me stories of people they know who have had their vans and trailers broken into. We spend a lot of nights in hotels with the van and trailer parked outside. The consensus was, if it is unmarked, it is less likely to be a target of theives then if it is labeled as being something that might be interesting. I found it hard to believe that theives may target magicians and such, but there is evidence to proof otherwise. Good luck whatever your decision, Rob |

Hey all, I have had my grand cherokees backa nd 2 side windows with my logo and info for the past 8 years and have not been broken into(knock on wood) I also have a cargo trailer that has a complete stage setup including pa system etc. that is also logo's and never been broken into!
I actually was talking to my insurance agent after someone backed into me and they said that chances are the lettering will help deter thives from stealing my vehicle cause it is way to noticable! I am actually trying to find some sort of small waterproof box to attach to the rear window to place biz cards in with a take one sign!

Another down side to having an identifiable vehicle is that one must constantly remain on one's best behavior when in the public eye.
I basically learned how to drive on the roads and highways of Italy and Greece...I inherited their national tendency towards annoyance at incompetent drivers and unfavorable situations. This was great when I was behind the wheel of a blue-&-white patrol car and could pull the suckers over to release my frustration. Writing a ticket while the other driver gets blue in the face can be very cathartic. These days, however, I must rely on the Italian & Greek method of communicating my displeasure with my hands...something I have to consciously avoid doing when I'm in my marked company vehicle. "Oh look! Happy Dan is Waving...er...cover your eyes, children!" :o/ Skip

Interesting choice in vehicle.. There is a Toronto entertainer that has that exact car with sirens and all and he is the Dr. Bandoli's Travelling Good-Time Show, can't seem to find a web site or pic, but he's a balloon twister/ magician!

Great point Skip,
If your name (or your companies name or any name) is on your car/truck/van/whatever, you better be on your best behavior. I’m surprised that more companies don’t teach this simple philosophy! I know there are companies I won’t do business with because of their drivers, and companies I remember because of their drivers (in a good way). I remember in my youth, my parents had a Ford Galaxy, the same car used by the State Troopers, at night everyone let me go by, until they realized it was only a 16/17 year old driving . Dave |

I would go with a Toyota Scion Xb. Black or White with a flame job... The flames would only be a flame outline... The flame itself would look like the back of a giant Bicycle playing card. In the back window, I'd have the words "Got Magic?" with my contact number not too far below. On the side runningboards, I'd put my website...well, first I'd need my own website!
