I don't know if this is the proper place to post this, but I was wondering if anyone had any leads on where to find the Jack Hughes World of Magic series. I know they are VERY difficult to come by. If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all of your help and work.

Take care,

Bryan

They are hard to come buy except used. Dereck Lever published them and owns the rights to the books and the effects contained therein.

Great books. Not overly detailed but great for historical reference on the illusions, and the names they went under when produced by J.H.

I also have the Jack Hughes' World of Magic book. I find it one of my best reference books for magic props. No measurements but the illustrations are self explanatory. Valuable if you have the chance to get the book.
Good luck in your search.

If there are any specific items in the books that you are interested in, drop me a pm. - I have them in my collection but unfortunately don't wish to sell them.

Did anyone receive the reprints of the books at FISM this past summer?

Yes unfortunately, I went to Blackpool last year and got one! However, the three original volumes which I already had were quite rare and therefore would probably be worth more than I paid for them, however now that 3000 - 3500 reprints exist, they are now virtually unsaleable!

Don't you love it when publishers do that? These were not inexpensive to start with so you do purchase with the thought that they will maintain their value (at least!). I have the 3 original volumes also.

That happened to my copy of Magic of Alan Wakeling after the paperback version came out. Oh well!

Were the reprints of the JH books a complete set?

Yep. Count me in that group of original publication owners, too. Looks like we'll have to form our own little elite club, and pine for the good ol' days. Ha!

Me too. I even picked up an extra volume 1 (the best) figuring I could sell it some day at a profit... Yeah right!

The reprint was one (rather nice) hardback book containing all three volumes. I suspect that many will be available second-hand as everyone who attended Blackpool FISM got one, regardless of whether they had any interest in prop building or not!

The reprint is a compilation (286 pages), not the complete three volumes.

Actually that makes me interested in obtaining a copy as an addition to my own collection. Like having both the Albo Okito VHS tapes and DVDs... similar but different. I guess it would depend on the cost. First sellers out of the chute will likely try to get a higher price.

Well. Done Bill! I did look earlier this evening to see what tricks we missing from the compilation. Unfortunately, it has neither a chapter list nor index! It would take a while to go through the whole book and compare the contents.
