Hey everyone...

Don't know how much truth to this there is, but I thought that I would pass it along.

Blaine has allegedly challenged Angel to an endurance test in which they both enter
"bubbles" to see who lasts the longest.

Kind of weird, but then again, so are Blaine & Angel...

Go Here!

and scroll about half way down to read the
"Bubble Boys" story from the New York Post!

It wouldn't surprise me. I'm not happy about the unfriendly competition though. It isn't good publicity for the rest of us. Magic is not about trying to be "better" than another magician, it's about amazing people and making them believe, if only for a few seconds, that the impossible is possible.

Krazy glue them in for a little suspense. Just don't tell them until after they are inside. Pulse the oxygen positive to negative to see who misses a breath first. Pour 300 scorpions in so they can't move, and suspend Cobras overhead so whoever pulls the let me out button first has a new challenge.

Jeeze,
It doesn't take much to think like a TV producer. Smile

Ice Raven,

With both Blaine and Angel, it's not just about the entertainment factor. It's about the publicity.

I wouldn't put it past them to be doing this on purpose to mutually benefit them both publicity-wise... I would be willing to bet that it's more about the promotion than the challenge between the two of them. (Remember, Angel is hooked up with the WWF, the organization that makes a career out of hyping wrestlers and promoting the popularity of their own television show).

I have mixed feelings about their "battle," but in my opinion, anything that gets the general public talking about our art is good for the rest of us.

Hear that? It's the sound of two egos clanging together. Still, I don't think this is only about a second-grade "I'm better than you are" mentality. After all, you don't need plastic bubbles to deprive yourself of food and water. A couple comfy chairs would have worked just as well, but not have been as dramatic.

I say we seal up the bubbles and have the wrestlers toss them back and forth like beach balls.

Or the wrestlers could play volleyball with sledgehammers. Think about the publicity that would generate for our art! You're right, kingstardog, it doesn't take much to think like a TV producer. Smile

Seance,

LOL!

Now THAT would be entertaining! I'm sure that FOX would pick it up!

The only problem with sealing Blaine and Angel in bubbles is that they're going to let them out later!

Seance, don't give Blaine or Angel any ideas! And I don't think Criss would be up to that, his mascara would run and his wig would fall off. Smile

You know those little stress-relief desktop novelty things that have 5 or six balls on strings, and when you pull one ball on the end back and release it causes the one on the other end to swing out and hit the stack causing the other to swing out and.......
We could make a giant one of those things out of a couple buildings, with the bubbles holding Blain and Angel at either end.
They won't last very long then! Smile

 I had the same problem, after reading too many posts! That would be a weird "Mr. Bubble Pool Party." (If you don't remember those TV commercials, be glad you're young.)

Yep, I more or less said the same on another forum where this came up. Smile

Perhaps if it goes ahead (which we know it won't, Angel has simply to come back with an equally ridiculous challenge of his own for more publicity) they will be sued by the family of the ORIGINAL boy in the bubble (a part played many years ago by John Travolta I believe) Smile Smile

Why don't we just lock them both into the same room and see who can survive the other's ego the longest.

Are there any roofed stadiums large enough to contain egos of this size though?

Sorry, I have to interject here! I always sort of liked Blaine, I found him refreshingly different. But I had heard from people that he had a huge ego, etc. I met him last night after I blagged my way into his after-party for his new book. I went up to him told him I blagged my way in and was about to get kicked out. The guest list woman came up to us and he told her, "It's cool. He is with me."

I spent about 25 minutes chatting with him, and I have to say he is the nicest magician I have met after David Williamson (whom I spent two days on and off with) We talked about the public's perception of magicians. He asked what he should do when people ask him to levitate and I taught him some mind reading stuff. We swapped e-mail addresses (his real ones not david@davidblaine.com ) and I got free drinks all night. Just before he left he came up to me and told me to e-mail him. I will never say a bad word about him again.

You're one lucky son of a gun, hackmonkey! That was a brave thing you did there!

More power to you!

More power to Blaine!

I am new to the Café so here goes: As a working magician, I would say I get asked about Blaine or Angel once a night. If they want to challenge each other, great. It truly helps us. Like it or not, it does. What they do gets people talking, and talking good or bad is good.

As for Criss Angel, if he wants to challenge people he should be careful before he gets called out by a no name like me, anytime, anywhere.

I think Angel & Blaine should have a live magic competition, no editing, no second takes. There are weirdos out there who can endure things beyond these two ever could.

Or maybe they could just have a swimsuit competition? Smile
