Fav.
the Drummer-Boy (any version) Charlie Brown Christmas (yay! Chrystal!) Least fav. None. Like 'em all. I like Feliz Navidad. I especially like it when my son sings the song. All nice and Christmassy for the Spanish parts...then a deep breath...and he belts out I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas at the top of his voice...I join him after I stop laughing. Drives my wife bonkers, 'though...
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

Yeah, I have already played the Charlie Brown Christmas CD about 317 times since Thanksgiving! I love that album!
I'm really a big fan of the various Christmas cartoon songs, like "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and the Cold Miser/Heat Miser song. Yes, I even love the Chipmunk song! I really hate all those horrible 80's Christmas songs that came out by the then-current one-hit wonders. Except Sting's "Gabriel's Message" and Tracy Chapman's "O Holy Night". Those rocked. But the Eurythmic's "Winter Wonderland"? BAH HUMBUG! |

I like the sentiment of "Do You Hear What I Hear" but you know a song is bad when you find yourself answering the song. i.e. When the get to the line; "A child, a child, shivers in the cold. Let us bring him silver and gold." My first thought is; 'Wouldn't a blanket be a little more appropriate?' And another fave, Bing Crosby and David Bowie doing the duet. For those of you who don't like the Chipmunks, you'd get a kick out of the song, or partial song, I heard on the radio this morning...."Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire."

Mandrake-
Have you seen the Christmas shoes movie? I know it's a sad song and that's not the reason I like it. Sometimes, I need to be reminded of how short life on earth really is and to slow down and re-evaluate the truly important things in my life. Harp |

An obscure, but personal favorite:
The Jolliest Fat Man It was Christmas Eve night at the poorhouse And all of the paupers were there I stepped in because it was snowing And snow always screws up my hair ~By the pot-bellied stove, sat a pot-bellied man ~He spoke with some lumps in his throat ~His story was sad and his diction was bad ~And here is the song that he wrote: I once was the jolliest fat man With roses in all of my cheeks I'd load up my sleigh every Christmas And go on a drunk for two weeks ~My friends say they saw me on rooftops ~And sliding down chimneys at dawn ~With my reindeer in hand, I would glide 'cross the land ~And wake up on somebody's lawn One morning my wife left this message: "Each Christmas I've spent by myself I'm sick of your stupid traditions So I've run off to Spain with 'a' elf" ~Just then the old man started dying ~He screamed, "May the Lord take my soul!" ~We went through his wallet to see who he was ~His address read simply: "North Pole" ~~So, the next time you go by the poorhouse ~~If, by the poorhouse, you go ~~Just take off your hat, to a dead guy who's fat ~~And whisper a silent "Ho-Ho" Weird Christmas songs bring out the best in me, like I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas, I'm Gettin Nuttin For Christmas and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. |

In the morning (6-10) the local "shock jocks" Paul and Al will have a playoff of the "worst" Christmas songs ever. Hippopotamus and Nuttin were on there along with Ru Paul's "All I Want For Christmas Is Some Liposuction" and another artist's "There's Somethin' In The Chimmny, And I Don' Know What It Is" and others. There also a CD of Dr. Demento's favorite Christmas songs that you might enjoy.

Oh yeah, Scott. I forgot about "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas." I love that one!
And Larry Norman has one I like called "It's Christmas Time": Santa Claus is coming and the kids are getting greedy They know what's in the stores ´cause they seen it on the TV and It used to be the birthday of The Man who saved our necks Now it stands for Santa Claus, they spell it with an "X"!
