Can be found in The Book of Magic by John Mullholland. The effect: The magician knows a previously chosen card by a spectator despite never have touching nor watching the deck.

While the performer's back is turned (or not) a volunteer deals all cards out into four piles. Any pile is chosen by spectator. Spectator looks at a card in the middle of chosen pile, puts it on top of any pile and then stacks all piles on top of each other in any sequence.

Spectator now begins to deal each card and names it. The magician says stop and reveal that card as the chosen.

The by-play is written as a setup about how a person's voice changes slightly when they try to hide something. An experiement with cards is used to show this.

A funny touch is noted that once the performer knows the cards, they can say something like "What were those last three cards?" and have some fun with people who try to change their voice a little on purpose to cover up the true selection.

Anyway, nice little discovery off the book shelf this morning. No sleights involved and the best thing is that the entire effect can be performed without the performer ever even SEEING the cards.

It's a good excersise in presentation.
Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Tommy Emmanuel are all you need to study to learn to play guitar.

Well, in that book there aren't always 'titles' of tricks/effects but this one is under "Card Automation" in the chapter Sundry Miracles on pg.24

The bonus effect in Oafin Jinn called NOWHERE TO BE FOUND where a selected card vanishes, never to be found, from a deck of cards, is also an effective and easy card trick.
