It would be great if someone could give a review of this illusion on one of Falkenstein and Willard's DVDs.

I've performed the Gypsy Mystery Rope and I think it's great. I can't say how it would go over for a male magician, but it was pretty funny and amazing for me. I'm 5'3" and would choose a man who was about 6'. When the curtain came down and I was all tied up with his big jacket on, it got a great reaction. Even the guy inside the curtain didn't know how it was done.
It wasn't hard to learn either. It can be performed in practically any situation, even completely surrounded. Plus it packs small and plays big; that's always a plus. You do need at least one assistant, because even though the audience member helps with the tying, the ropes must be tied exactly the right way. I would recommend that you try it. Hope this helps. Oh Man! This is a fantastic effect and totally worth more than the price of the DVD set.
I think I first saw this on WGM performed by Julianna Chen. This is one of those super practical Packs small Play big effects and its gold if you work with an assistatant. You can walk with an extra suit jacket if no one in your audience is likely to have one or just lend them yours...Not me though - I'm so rigged up that if someone else tried on my jacket (insert funny quip here) I would recommend it highly except I use this and don't want anyone else to use it so please forget I said anything...

Thanks guys! I think I vaguely remember seeing Julianna Chen do this. Didn't she pull a huge curtain totally around herself? Oh, and is this similar to what Copperfield did on his special many years ago, where he sat inside of that house, was all tied up, the curtain went up, & when it was lowered, he was wearing the coat? More detail on what the effect actually looks like to the specs would be great! I think I just might want to get this one!
