Hello...
I really do not know where to start. How about right here....I have found out that Jerry MacGregor's and my book (The Restaurant Workers Handbook) is now out of print and the publisher may not re publish. I am wondering if some of you who own this book would email me and tell me what they think of the book. I would be very interested if it has helped any to get work and such. In the years after publishing our book I have received many compliments from all over the world.I believe that it is a book that should stay in circulation. How about you? I am trying to get enough feedback that I can send all comments to the powers that be. With your comments maybe I can push the ball a little closer to the goal line. Any comments please. My email address is jimpace69@qwest.net If you choose to place comments here that would be fine also. I will just direct them to this site With much repect, Jim Pace

Jim,
I've already mentioned to you how well-written and packed with practical advice this book is. I absolutely love this book. I consider it to be one of my top 10 magic books. Quite frankly, I was absolutely astounded when I first read this book. I never thought you had it in you. (grin) This book used has almost always sold for near new book value. IMHO, if this book doesn't get reprinted, the copies now in existence may soon begin to exceed the original purchase price in value. For the sake of the magic fraternity, I hope we don't have this book soar to the price range of the Goldstein's "Color Series" or Ricky Jay's "Cards as Weapons". Please advise you publisher to "get a clue" and issue a 2nd edition. 10/10 Mike

Jim,
I remember calling you at Callin's after I had finished reading the book. Somehow, you had managed to put a dust jacket around the last 20 years of my life. I had never read anything in my life that was more to the truth than was The Restaurant Workers' Handbook. Already well-seasoned as a restaurant magician, I knew your book had been written by someone who had spent a lot of time in the trenches. Any magician wishing to enter this field of magic would be doing himself a tremendous favor by reading it. Here's hoping it will see as many printings as is necessary to educate restaurant magicians for the next five generations! ~michael baker

Yes, this is a wonderful, wonderful piece of work. I'd hate to see it go the way of the dodo so to speak and see used copies skyrocket in price on ebay. Give that publisher what for and keep this book on the shelves! A must read for anyone remotely interested in performing in restaurants.

Since the Blaine and Cris Angel shows there are more and more newcomers showing an interest in magic and restaurant work.
I see an opportunity for both the authors and publisher to continue the distribution of what many consider a classical work. |

Jim, is it possible for you to buy back the rights to the book and republish it yourself? Is that a consideration?

Hey, Jim, I like the book, too. I'm looking for your gags 1 dvd and can't seem to find it. Is that dvd/tape out of print so to speak? Do you know where it can be found. Thanks.

Hey Jim,
I want to add to the list of people raving about this book. It was an absolute must-read for me when I started in the restaurant industry and really gave me a solid foundation to build on. It's extremely well writen, lucid, and relevant to any entertainer wanting to work in a restaurant setting. In terms of republishing, another idea that you may consider is to publish it as an ebook (similar to the workers series etc...) Best of luck! Alym PS: I still can't do the parallel sleeve vanish - man did you ever make that look good!

Jim,
Since Kirk's book is still in print, and I have to assume there's a limited market for this type of material, have you considered doing a DVD or two on the topic instead? It would seem like a lecture/interview DVD (like the ones Michael Close did with Eric Mead and Michael Ammar) with performance clips and a REAL audience would be an ideal way to present your thoughts on the topic. You could include performance only demos of all your marketed stuff as bonus extras. Maybe includes shots of your marketing materials, that sort of thing... |

I, too, want to add my rave about this book. I still turn to it today to re-read certain chapters. A great book indeed!

Jim,
what the publisher might want to know is how many would be interested in buying this book if it was reprinted.... well, chalk up one for me! |

Jim,
This is my favorite book in my library. I can't find info like this in any other magic book. And it couldn't be written by a better man on the topic. I hope your publisher takes a second look and changes his/her mind. Take care, Brian |

The book is the best book on restaurant magic that I have found (no disrespect to Kirk Charles, whose book made me aware of the concept of restaurant magic). This is THE reference for anyone interested in getting into restaurant work, practical, real world advice, with an excellent selection of tricks. I would love to see, as Bill Duncan suggests, a dvd set on restaurant magic, or a book/dvd combo. There is surprisingly little video footage on restaurant magic. Best of luck -
