I used to own this effect, but was disappointed by the "talk".
Does anyone use this in their routine?
I am tempted to buy this item again, now I have gained more experience,
I appreciate there is now also "Rinky Dinky" but "Ring Flight" is the one for me....I think! - Wulfie

Alright, I was just going to post on this topic. I too will be purchasing an old fashioned ring flight (ring to key, ahem, purse).

My research:
1. David Atkinson (I think that's the name/spelling) created a buyers guide for this effect online. Go to Google and type in "ring flight"
2. I have heard good things about Immakulate (threads here at the Café). Only one dealer told me he didn't like it, but gave no reasons why.
3. There are a couple elusive versions, that people rave about. I'm not going to look for them.
4. The Polaris version has it's own site (www.ringflight.com). I have never seen this reveiwed. But a bunch of people are listed on his site recommendin it (Jeff McBride, a bunch of other magicians...). And it's created by a magician for magicians.
5. Good things about Ultimate Ring Flight (or Reel flight, is there a difference)
6. Bad things about Houdini's Ring Flight

So, I have no idea. It's hard because it's not the type of thing any given magician is going to have experience with the various versions. They buy one, it works well, they recommend it.

So I guess I'm stuck between Immakulate, and Polaris Ring Flight Super, and maybe Ultimate Ring Flight.

Any opinions about about any of these? One louder than the other, one bigger than the other, one goofier looking than the other, one hurts to sit on Smile

Thanks,
Smile

Here are the buyers guides I've found, both by Douglas Atkinson:

and

Hope they help!

I don’t particularly like the reel-based ‘Ring Flight’. Mechanical ring flights do have a tendency to break when you need them the most. This is true especially if you are a working magician and performing the effect regularly.

I have one of the best reel versions made; it has a locking reel and it has never failed me in performance (but was only used for about fifty performances). That said I haven’t used it in more than 20 years. I moved away from the reel-based version because of an accident that a friend of mine had. He damaged an expensive ring. Enough said!

My first reel-less version was purchased from Supreme Magic in England. It was called “Ringon Ringon” and used a snap closed key case. It was very cleverly gimmicked and had a strong routine. I still use the routine and still have the gimmicked key case.

Another that is available that uses the same kind of key case, but is gimmicked in a totally different way (actually an easier gimmick to use than the Ringon Ringon), is “Gone With The Ring”. It is a very low-tech gimmick. Cost is about $15.00 from Magic Smith. It is very direct and very easy to use.

Presently, I use the Jeff Stewart idea of a gimmicked key ring that accepts a finger ring almost instantly (put your hand in your pocket to take out your key ring, take it out and there is the finger ring! It’s that fast! Jeff calls his version the “Ring Thing” and it costs a big $10.00 from Meir Yedid! Meir’s web site is http://www.mymagic.com
I carry my car key on this ring so I am ready to perform the effect anywhere anytime!

Two interesting Ring Flight kind of ideas that get away from the key case or key ring is Richard Sanders “On Foot” (Ring to Shoe Lace, $20.00 Magic Smith) and “My Ring Collection” (a very cool ring to safety pin amongst a whole set of safety-pinned rings on a piece of red cloth which is pinned inside your jacket! Whew, did you get that? All for $15.00 from Magic Smith).

Steve Dusheck marketed a couple of different versions years ago that were different and reel-less (one the key was actually found on a key chain, the ball type of chain). Bob Solari has an interesting reel-less ring flight. Of course there is Geaton Bloom’s version (use the Mike Close routine).

Ok, that is more than you ever wanted to know about the reel-less Ring Flight. I am offering this to get you thinking about alternatives to a fairly expensive prop (an not very contemporary looking) prop. I am only suggesting that the effect may be had by other less mechanical means.

Dusheck's "Ringer" gets my vote. If you don't mind doing a pass to vanish the ring, you will like it.

I have the Immaculate ring flight but use it sparingly. I find that the ring can sometimes be hard to load on the clip supplied.
I recently purchased Gaeton Bloom's Flying Ring and was originally disappointed. The gimmick did not fit(it was very tight)and the chain attached to the gimmick fell off after a few tries. The instructions stated to put your hands behind your back to load the gimmick. I felt that this was not that magical of a routine.
After reading some positive posts on this board about the flying ring, and realizing that Gaeton Bloom is a prominate magician, I decided to try again.
I widened the gimmick...reattached the chain by a stronger method...and reworked the routine so to not put the hands behind the back.
At this time I'm fooloing myself in front of the mirror and can't wait to perform this for a live audience which will be this Saturday.
I have never seen Mike Close's presentation of this effect but I feel this is going to play very strong.
Aside from the gimmick not being very well made, I think I'm guilty of giving up on this way to early and not being ready to put the neccessary time to make this a great effect. I highly recommend it
