What is it magicians are looking for in a website? I'm going to be opening a website of my own soon featuring effects I've created and sleights all available for download. Of course I'll be selling a couple of the effects so that I can pay for the server usage, but I intend to keep much of the site free.
For those that don't remember me around here, I'm mainly a closeup/mentalism kinda guy. So that will be most of what's featured on the website. I'm curious to know though, what kind of effects is the general public interested in? This is going to be a "for magician's" site, so I'd like to cater to them the best that I can.
Coming soon... Who knows!

Those that appear to be impromptu.
The less cards the better. We already have a gazillion of those. |

Since you are a close up/mentalism kind of guy, I assume that will be a signigicant part of your site, as it should be. It is what you know best, so if part of the purpose of your site is to "cater to magicians" you should involve the things you know and do the best.
As far as the general public goes, cards are always big, but has Jaz pointed out there are plenty of card sites. I would also agree with Jaz in that John Q. Public will often turn his nose up at tricks he feels he must get props for. They must be easy to do. "NO SLEIGHT OF HAND!"
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I like the idea of less cards, although they are what I'm best at... I've been wanting to venture out into the realm of everyday objects like pens and such. On The Spot has been on my list of DVD's to buy for a VERY long time now since it has those kind of things. Jay Sankey also likes to play with that kind of thing, and I've been a fan of his for quite some time so I'm sure I can come up with a couple ideas off of their styles.
Chessman, I believe it will be mostly, if not all close up and mentalism, and as you said, that's what I know best so it will have to be the biggest part of the website. I'm still debating on how I should set up the website. I'm thinking of using something like PHPNuke or a CMS similar to it (if anyone knows what I'm talking about) I don't know if it's the best route to go though. I thought maybe in the style of a Blog, I have yet to find any blogs on magic out there. I think that idea has a little merit to it. I am not quite sure yet though, but a blog is a serious thought I'm having. It could go well I think.
Coming soon... Who knows!
