There have been several posts in various topics about Gary Ouellet's Airtime Illusion (The double levitation of both the girl and the magician), featured by John Gabriel on World's Greatest Magic 5. The posts have questioned "Airtime" being actually created by Gary Ouellet. I had mentioned in a recent post that I believed it was created by Gary, so I wanted to do some research to make sure that this was true.
I just got off the phone with John Gabriel. He said that the concept was created many years ago by Gary Ouellet and first used in a small version performed by Melinda. (only traveling about 5 feet in the air) Gary then created and developed the full version of "Airtime" with ideas from John...which John then performed on WGM5. Since then, several have been built and performed by various magicians. I don't want to step on anyone's toes if this information is for any reason not accurate, but it comes from an excellent source and I hope it can clear up some questions about the illusion. -Reza |

Dear Reza,
I am one of those people questioning the genesis of "Airtime" and I sincerely appreciate your efforts. I am seriously interested in having concrete dates. When was the first performance of that illusion and/or when did Gary approach the builders in question? Do you have any information on that? Thank you in advance! Regards, D |

Hi David,
The Airtime Illusion designed by Gary Ouellet was build by Willie Kennedy. So try to get more information concerning dates from him. I've got a document that I've printed years ago concerning the illusions Gary worked on, I just need to get hold of it. It was on his web.
May all your days be magical

Dear Oliver,
I have already spoken to Willie last year. He told me among others that he was not really sure about Gary being the rightful inventor of Airtime. The entertainment industry (music, theater, magic) is full of "names" who do not mind taking a "nobody"'s idea and selling it later as their own "product". As I've said in a previous post (different topic), it is not wise to linger on this topic too much since Gary's not with us anymore to give us the "facts". Regards, D |

Dear all,
First of all thank you for your feedback David. I understand perfectly what you meen and of course I don't want to start linger a lot on this topic. I just found the document again. Unfortunatly no dates are on this document. On the other hand Gary Ouellet mentioned in the past on this document that the following worldwide well known magicians performed Airtime : - John Gabriel on WGM 5 - Melinda on Disney's Melinda - Brett Daniels in Magique - Rick Thomas at the Tropicana in Las Vegas (Rick had added his own new ending) - Anthony Reed - Silvan And of course a lot of other magic and illusion performers. Those information are from the Ouellet Entertainment web dated in 2001, which doesn't existe anymore. I hope this helps a little bit more for those who were looking for more information on this illusion.
May all your days be magical

Who provides the germ of an idea, and who nourishes and developes it, is always cause for speculation in the end, and makes those wonder who should get credit.
I was always amazed by the way Gary transitioned from a great close-up worker, to a "great" creator of unique illusions??? So I will not speculate on this "transition". (Double levitations have been around before) Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!"
