From 1st Jan 2006:
1) Magicians are forbidden to obsess about the pass - do it or don't do it - it's the law. 2) Magicians should be serious about their magic, but not take themselves too seriously - pomposity and arrogance are hence banishèd. 3) Canada Day is to be renamed Vernon Dai and celebrated globally, and in any other regions of the galaxy where Canadian is spoken or understood. Please extend this list according to taste and discretion, should you possess either. |

How about not obsessing about a certian magician and being puppy dog like at the mere mention of their name (kind of ruins rule 3 but what the heck~!)
Posted: Dec 16, 2005 5:41pm --------------------------------------- Oo oo oo and how about NOT forcing card tricks on unsuspecting people yea that is a cool one and how about waiting till your actually ready to perform for people before you try to show the latest version of the 21 card trick..... oh and that too is banished~

And how about not posting a review on an item until you own it

Magicians will hencefourth look at anything OTHER THAN their own hands when perfroming a two card turnover or double lift.

If you do Double Lift (DL) and flip it over on the deck for all to see, including the mage, it will now be called a Double Turnover (DT). However, in the event the double is lifted for the spectators eyes only, and NOT the mage's, it will still be consided a DL.
The trick being called "Two Card Monte" will be called "Eddie Fechter's 'Be Honest, What Is It' Variation". These amendments become effective at 12:00:01 on January 1st, 2006. |

-No asking what tricks to buy for your show untill you have given a complete description of what your looking for and what your charcter is like.
-No more hating on tv magicians like david and chris, you either like them or you don't, but don't start the same argument for the 50th time. Daniel |

No more asking for reviews of a dvd before it is even released.
No more asking what the best trick in a book or on a dvd when you first get it, and want to skip right to it. No more asking where to get cheaper cards(cause its been discussed 1 billion times, and everyone knows Costco, BJs or wherever else.) No more asking the most powerful trick of all time. there are millions of these, LOL |

OK I've got another one:
Starting in 2006 all card magicians are forthwith and henceforth banned from referring to or concerning themselves with comparisons with everybody's proverbial uncle that does bad card magic. Low audience expectations are actually a good thing - it's easy to surprise people with how good your are! If you are not confident, charismatic, or proficient enough to dispel the low expectations in the first couple of minutes of your routine, you are not ready to perform publicly. And assuming that you are ready, you'd know that the issue is just not a concern. |

One more:
No more looking for advice cheating your friends at poker, or telling us you have done so. No one shall request to start a forum for card cheaters. Michael |

I can't believe people actually ask those questions !!
BTW Which trick in which book or dvd will make me instantly attractive to women? I have invested in a pack of those cool silver cards and bought some eyeliner, so I think I am adequately prepared for the task. Oh, and since starting magic yesterday, I have now nailed my Fuentes Pass and think my version of Kosby's Raise Rise rocks !! As this forum is only for cards, I won't mention where I've found all the faults with Slydini's Coins Through The Table routine. Have a happy and safe Xmas everyone. Regards, Alan |

Magicians in this forum shall refrain from asking for updates on dvd/book projects that are half-a-year or more away. You know the types of threads I'm referring to. We are all as impatient as the next guy, but to have my hopes constantly raised by the prospect of a new INFORMATIVE post only to have them dashed by the realization that its just another guy chiming in with a "Magician X rocks!" or "any updates?" is killing me.
And since I don't want this thread to be full of "don't do's", I will add that magicians in 2006 will do everything in their power to be the best spectators possible when watching another magician perform. The acting skills you will need to be a great magician are better sharpened by playing a cooperative spectator, than by playing the part of the insecure colleague around your fellow magi. Happy new year to all! |

How about this rule:
Spend more time practicing and routining, than you do on magic forums...

That's a good one Samuel.
How about: ANYONE who creates a set of card magic rules that apply to everybody will have to play a game of fiftytwo pick-up every time he meets a magician.

If you don't like a trick, still be respectful about it. Just because it doesn't suit you, doesn't mean you have to make everyone else dislike it before they have even read the effect of the trick
Actually try a search on a particular topic rather than starting a new thread on a topic that is being discussed 3 topics down |

Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules...
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

I will be addressed as "The king of cards" until I decide it is time to be called "the World's Greatest Escape Artist"
