You have the same problems and deseases for the escelator technique. There are possible and claustrophobia /agarophobias/(the opposite)

To avoid such a thing, the only possibility is to make a disclaimer and caveats before every single induction.

The theme is, everything can cause anything, but that's not the theme, but it might be really interesting who does this.

EG If you want the participants to look like they are drunk and so one, you must say, you only accept this advise if youre not an alcoholican and if you have no problems /conscious / Unconscious with alcohol.

My favorite technique to deepen someone, the go slowly and careful downstairs (provides the escelator problem)and with every step the fall deeper and even deeper in this relaxing .... and then they go in their own golden room where everything is safe and secure, and they fall deepr and so on..

But using different induction techniques such a thing is not always necessary

The escalator and the golden room ideas have been immediately entered into my stage hyp notes...I can see where these are both quite good!

Thank you Danny and Dan...these are the little gems I dig for around here.

I have had great and quick success with Elman's technique of having the subject open his/her eyes and then close them. This is preceded by the suggestion he/she will be 10 times as relaxed as they were before. I generally do this twice during an induction. The opening of the eyes allows you to see some physical tells confirming induction, the closing of the eyelids aids the subject in the "going deeper" visualization/suggestion and you can then bolster the suggestion by stating, "deeper" and "10 times more relaxed than you were before" as the eyes are closing. Enjoy. - Scott

I love that one........one question.......isn't 10 times more relaxed tough to imagine sometimes.........isn't twice as relaxed a little easier?

10x is tough to get your mind arround......maybe I am nit picking here.....and forgive me if I am......but 2 is enough isn't it?

Danny - Not only have I not had a problem with the "10x" suggestion - after all, it is a feeling you want to invoke in your subject, not an actual quantified amount - but any confusion there is will likely send your subject deeper, as well. I'm sure you, as well, have used confusion techniques to override the conscious mind and tap into the maleable subconsious. That being said . . . I have a confession . . . there are times, depending on the subject, when I will use the "10x" suggestion the first time I have someone open and close their eyes. The second time I repeat the same physical suggestions (e.g., opening and closing the eyes) and then only suggest they are "twice" as relaxed as they were before. Ultimately, I close with the words "you are deep, deep asleep" although previously I have overcome resistance by merely using the word "relaxed." Hope this helps. Enjoy. - Scott

I shared this experience with 10 times.....which is why I asked the question...

the only problem really is we have NO way to quantify if it would have also happened with twice as deep!........they may have done it then as well no way to tell.......

that being said I simply like twice as deep.....makes sense to ME and the audience more.....because when I use twice as deep there is a physical reaction....you can SEE their bodies change and actually relax more.....with 10 it dosn't equate well for me.....and it is FOR ME as we all have ways we do things. were taking them to the same place, just different roads!

Obviously, the point is to use whatever works, my friend. Remember, though, the important part is to have them open their eyes, lock their stare on you and then close their eyes on command as you repeat the suggestion of becoming more relaxed as their eyes close. I believe it is the combination of suggestions and physical sensations that creates this instantaneous deepening in the subject - not the mere suggestion of being "ten times" or "twice" as relaxed as before. Enjoy.- Scott

I always use 2x deep. Then 5x deep. Then 10x deep. Then picture a gauge in front off them with 0% to 100%. I get the subject to raise their hand and imagine moving the arrow from whatever they believe it to be set at, straight to 100%. BANG DEEP HYPNOSIS.

Stairs are my most used deepener. I can suggest various things happen at particular stairs as they count their way down.

I also like "sinking into a warm bath" having them imagine easing into it and the looseness of their limbs that this brings.

A bit of fractionation doesn't hurt either.

I tend to invoke colour/sound graduations as a deepener in a relaxed situation.
For a faster and harder hit I tend to go with stairs.

I have been doing shows for a long time, not a multitude of them. I don't like to travel. I also do bizarre magic. It seems to me, that as long as people believe you can do what you say, they will respond in some way. I use suggestion all the time in my magic shows. I induct them, but they don't know they are being inducted. In Bizarrist fashion, I tell stories, do some convincers and then toss in a hypnosis effect that can double as a magic trick. Let me explain. I do my version of the needle through the balloon, except I draw a simple face on the balloon and suggest that some of the audience will feel it. I plunge the needle in the temple/eye area. Some do feel it.

My question is: Do people really have to be relaxed for you, or just focused. I think we all have had people too relaxed, but have we ever had someone too focused?? Does anyone else do hypnotism without telling the audience he is doing it? Does anyone else use stories for inductions?

I think it is, as you say, a whole gambit of suggestion through stories and atmosphere in regards to bizarre magic...

I think the question really is do we understand the fact that indeed we are inducing them through our words etc...I wonder how many realize that...

First off, I would like to thank Mr. Grossberg for sharing a great idea.

Now to answer the question above, I agree with everyone else. I think 10x is a bit too much. I brought it down to 2x after hearing Jonathan Royle use 100x...lol. It just didn't seem very practical to me. I find that it requires too much thought and concentration on getting the body in a "perfectly relaxed state" (100x...100%....perfect...you get the picture).
If it is to be, it is up to me.

I highly doubt that if someone were suffering agoraphobia that they would be in your office or volunteering for a stage show in the first place.

One way to increase responsiveness, which is what you really want on stage anyway, is to link the applause from the audience, and the laughter, to the volunteer's depth as well.

"Every time you hear applause and every time you hear the audience enjoying themselves this evening, you will find your hypnotic stte becoming deeper and deeper and it will make it even easier for you to accept and respond to the suggestions and commands that I am giving to you during the show this evening..."

Works for me! It also works to minimize the distractions from those usually annoying flashes of light from the camera bugs in the crowd, too! Just adjust your wording accordingly.
