Hi...got a question for y'all. Somebody may know:
Once you've prepared the can so it's ready to be "refilled" and "reopened", how long can you keep the can in the state of preparedness and ready for action? I want to prepare a few cans, and just keep them around the house or office waiting until a random opportunity comes up to be do a miracle. Assuming nobody touches, moves, or shakes the can in any way, will it maintain it's latent power indefinitely (or at least for a week or two)? Well, I know from experience it maintains it's ability to work for at least a few hours. But who knows what would be the *maximum* time I could leave the can sitting around and still have it work? |

I think you just answered your own question. It works for a few hours, not much more.

It costs time and a few cans...
@topic: use a piece of scotch tape to seal ... you know what I am talking about have fun! here is a little routine I came up with you might like: prepare a can of of your favorite drink before you go into a disco or club. then use the scotch tape, put it into a bush or something where is already lot of waste in the area around the club. when you go home you say you are still thirsty and if they are too. that you would give everything for a beer for instanceand look for some waste while you go along with your friends and ask them if they see a crushed can... some might find one when you say: oh I found one already...show it around and go for healed and sealed have fun

That is a good routine idea.it gives the illusion of using any can but really you go for the prepared.

I think sealing the can is a no no once it has been prepared, you simply won't get the restoration you won't. As far as the finding the can in or among waste is pretty much the whole idea of this effect isn't it.
You certainly wouldn't want to pull out an empty crushed can from your case or have it sitting on a table. Jeff |

As long as the can is fully restored is all were after, coke cans restore perfectly, can't imagine it looking any different in another brand.

Skaboot, I'm curious what you mean by, "its stays bent longer when you immediately seal it." Do you mean it takes longer for it to return to its normal condition"HEALED can".

I probably would just not do this effect and move onto something else. It actually is not that great of an effect. Well let me restate that. For all the work that you need to do, for example what memory jah said above. It is not that great of an effect. The problem I have with effects like this is when somebody walks up to you with an empty crushed can and hands it to you and says. Can you show that trick to my buddy here. That is when you are standing there spinning your wheels with all of the reasons that you can't do it at that moment.

Don't know why but for some reason the sam's cola from wal mart is easier to transport after it has been plugged. it won't inflate so easy compared to coke but works the same when the trick's in action.

Chichi it is a wonderfully strong effect, if you think it isn't you are probably the only one out their. As far as all the work you have to do, you must be lazy, its quick and simple. As far as your problem with effects like this, if your doing magic for friends and no more then maybe I might see your point. But if your a professional performer your not running all over the place showing family and friends but an actual paying audience you would be able to handle those situations a little better than being stuck and spinnig your wheels as you said. If someone asks you to do something specific I simply would do another effect that will blow them away just as much. I personally don't take requests and I'm pretty sure most real magicians don't either. Healed and Sealed is a beautiful piece of magic, thanks Anders.

JFk. First off to say that I am not a "real magician" is insulting. You have no idea who I am or where I am from. Also do a pull you will find many magicians that think healed and sealed does not work for a paying audience. When I say the work that goes into it I am not speaking of the set up. The set up takes about 1 min. I am talking about setting up the situation to a paying audience that does not look fake. When you pull that crushed can out of your little case the audience knows it is a set up. Yes the idea of an empty can refilling itself is really strong, but for walk around and table working and street perfroming the effect simply does not work.
I am not done yet. Friends and family never ask me to repeat a trick. Why? Because I almost never do magic for friends and family. It is often while strolling. If you performed this effect at lets say a party. Ten mins later two people walk up and say. Hey can you show my buddy that effect you showed me with that coke can. If my response is show them some other effect. I have just discredited myself. If I say. Hold on a second let me go grab a new can we cant use the one that we already did it on. I have just discredited myself. I need referals and everytime I discredit myself I lose a referal. If you do decide that you wont repeat tricks, because you are scared that you are going to get caught then at least do an effect that is almost the same. Slam a quarter in a can or something. Just don't pull out the deck of cards and expect to "blow"them away. JFK I can respect your opinion of the effect itself. That is fine if it works for you. Good for you I am proud of you. |

Chichi...if I was you, I wouldn't worry about someone asking you to repeat the trick later. Just say no (and add whatever excuse you wish, with whatever amount of mysticism fits you...for example, if you pretended it was taking lots of "energy" from you to refill the can originally, it's an easy manner to say you've already sapped your energy for that. Or, a non-mystical excuse is ok, too). I'll tell you frankly that I completely disagree that this refusal would "discredit" you. In fact, if you play it right, your refusal will actually BUILD people's respect and interest in you. Well, you might doubt about this. But give it a try. I can tell you, from my experience, when you DO do tricks on demand, it can easily make you look like a patsy. But if you hold a little something back from them, it's very possible people will be intrigued by you.

Healed and Sealed is a monster trick. I'm not sure what to make of postings that somehow imply that it's not.
I often think that they may reflect a bad experience with the effect rather than something lacking with the effect itself. How you set up the can before you spring the trick is your business. I mean there has to be some room for one to come up with something that might make sense to the group you're showing it to. I've done everything from take a can from the garbage in my own house for a small group, to pre set a can someplace where I know I'll be with people I want to show the trick to. It's monumentally powerful when you pre-set a can somewhere out in public and *find* it shortly thereafter. |

Hey Lane,
Why not you do it for real? Ok here goes. Buy a case (24)coca cola. Prepair them all and mark them 1 to 24. 24 hours later you open the #24. If its work then the #1 become #25 and #2 become #26 and so on. By this way you can eliminate hours and you'll find out what you need. Calcule the tempictures because is matter. Warmer can lose more quickly the sparkling. Best Las |

The overal effect is a good effect. All I am saying for a paying job it does not make sense. It does not reset. It can not be repeated for a different group of people. Say I don't know at a different table or somewhere else at the party. When I go into a gig I don't want to carry around 50 different props because non of them can resest. That is really all I am saying. When I say I am losing credability. I may need to explain that better. It was late when I was typing last. If somebody comes up and tells me to show the effect to there buddy. Often times I don't do the EXACT same effect, But if it was a card trick I do a similar card trick. If it was a coin I would do a coin. The effect itself is a stong effect so when you pull out a deck of cards I promise they are at least a little disapointed.
Silver king. The example you gave of pulling it out of your trash can at home. That to me is what the effect is made for. that is the only way I do it. Everybody at your home is going to see it everybody is going to be amazed. You don't have to reset, because everybody has seen it and you are obviously not working. It just does not work for a strolling gig. That is my whole point. |
