Ok, I was just asked if I could do a show for about the same amount of people about 100. I am mainly a close-up worker, but was wondering what everyone thought about doing this for a stage show.

1. Egg Bag

2. Cards Across - using the audience members as a martial arts expert and a ballerina ala Simon Lovell's cards across

3. Cut and Restored Rope Routine

4. Razor Blades and Thread routine -(swallowing)

5. Miser's Dream

6. Card on Forehead

That's about all I do standup -- I'm thinking about the vanishing bandana if I can get it in time too. What does everyone think -- can it cover about a half an hour?

Thanks everyone,
Bryan

Bryan,
This seems like it would easily go for 30 minutes (with getting the volunteers down, getting their names, etc.).

What would be your opener and closer.

IMO, I would go with the razor blades as the opener as it would draw in their attention (albeit morbid curiosity) also, you don't have anything fast and visual that I can see.

Egg Bag ala Johnny Thompson could be a good closer (I don't know how you do yours).

I suppose you could routine your card on forehead before your cards across.

Anyway, just some suggestions.

Thanks for the input. I would probably open up with the Egg Bag as it is fun and magical and instantly gets the audience involved. It would also give me a good repore with them because they end up pulling out the egg the last time so they know I'm here to have fun WITH them.

From there, I would probably go to Card on Forehead, then Cards Across. After that I would like to do the Miser's Dream. I would like to throw in the Vanishing Bandana (banana) if I get it in time next.

Finally end with the swallowing razorblades because of the pure tension of the effect and it's just a great impression to leave them with, of me pulling them out of my mouth. They will definitely remember me then.

That's what I was thinking. Half-hour? Do you guys think I could cover it? With just that?

Twistedace,
I would suggest, especially as an opener, to do something that establishes your skill right away. I always open up with a multiple silk vanish and production routine with a kicker ending. Duane Laflin has a great routine on his Simply Beautiful Silks video.
Miser's Dream is a must. Paper hat tear with an audience member of course. B'wave is a great one, Professor's Nightmare rope routine.

I hope this helps. I just wouldn't open up with an Egg-bag routine, maybe half way through your show, just my opinion. Have a great time, and give a great time.

When is the show?
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

Get some Sponge Balls. It is a visual opener that helps set your skills in their eyes as well as audience participation. Plus they pack small and cost less.

Try a simple trick such as knife thru arm or a two card flight where you put one card one side of the room another card the other and they have changed. Simple yet inexplicable.

Hello Twistedace,
Just wanted to let you in on a few tips! My show went over great, I posted a lengthy post last week, but for some reason it has vanished.. here are the routines I performed.

1. Eating tissue paper and producing a mouth coil,
2. Clapping routine audience participation PM me if you are interested.
3. Silk vanish with TT
4. Marked coin across to spectators hand
5.One coin routine ending with Jumbo
6. Anniversary Waltz
7. Comedy Rope routine
8.Torn borrowed signed bill and restored inside of a balloon..

Tip's... try to get a wireless mic. the hand held mic was a huge inconvenience in my act.
Make sure you routine your act according to the crowd. This may seem obvious, but I had a couple of semi-dirty lines in my act that insinuated certain thing, and when the crowd of 150 opened the show with a prayer, I had to make a few quick adjustments!

Mingle with the crowd a bit before the show, do some of the good close up magic that you love, first, and blow them away! they should be in just the right mood for a stage show afterwards.. and enjoy yourself most importantly! I hope this helped a little,

I enjoyed the show however I still perfer the close-up scene vs the stage scene.

The tricks I performed above went over very well, I had a few people say they had difficulty seeing the coin tricks but the people that could see them loved them.

I wish I had done bill in a lemon, although the ripped and restored in a balloon was quite a killer closer as well.

Take care,
Good luck
MagicTom
