Mr. Burger,
I admit there may be other sources to whom I may address this question, but so far the answers have not been forthcoming. Do you know when the new Max Maven DVDs will be released? Will there be 3 or 6? If I recall the pictures in last year’s L&L catalogue, you make an appearance in them. |

Yes, I am on both of the DVDs Max made. My understanding is that there will be two DVDs but not issued at the same time. The first is called "Nothing" and the premise is that one arrives in town with nothing -- and will spend ten minutes and ten dollars in a drug store and have a really excellent 55 minute show. I was genuinely amazed at Max's thinking on this one.
The other is a DVD about the Magician's Choice (Equivoque) and, because of the things we can do with DVD, it should be the state of the art on this topic. Plus Max has so many clever PLOTS that use Equivique on this DVD. My understanding is that the first DVD is now edited (or nearly completely edited) and so should be released next year. For me, I was really delighted when Max asked me to be on the tapes with him. It was a great experience. Max is the absolute MASTER of the Magician's Choice. I have never seen anyone do it better than Max. Just reading his little booklet, Verbal Control, written back in the 1970s, shows you how cleverly he approaches this topic. I think magicians who are interested in mentalism will be thrilled when they see the material Max teaches these two DVDs. I was. |

Does Max teach the full presentation of the Equivoque he uses for Positive/Negative?
I still remember being slightly annoyed that the spectator picked up the penny on the tape. If I recall correctly, Max didn’t give us the script for the equivoque, but told us to refer to a different effect on another tape. There are a few ways to do equivoque with invisible coins. It looked like Max was going for the “one coin at a time” version. I think Max also had the spectator mix up the invisible coins on the table. The result would be that he couldn’t tell what coin the spectator picked up without first asking. In theory, that slows things down a bit and has the potential to make things transparent if done incorrectly. The bottom line is that I would like to see how Max handles all the scenarios. What are my chances? Thanks, Elliott |

Elliott: Some of your questions are best directed to Max. Regarding your last question, my understanding is that, because of what we can do on DVD, we will be able to see the alternative endings by just clicking on them. If I am correct in this -- and I think I am -- it will be quite a boon to the teaching of this material. VERY exciting.

That sounds like a pretty neat innovation.
Thanks, Elliott |
