Eric Sharp bought his first magic tricks in Kennards Stores Croydon Surrey and was fortunate enough to be befriended by a member of the Inner Magic Circle. Reginald Simpson who pointed him in the right direction, something that not many magicians were willing to do in the 1930's. A London cockney he always dreamed of marrying the girl next door, there was no girl next door until he moved to Devon and… you've guessed it,... he married the girl next door. During his war service was a member of the RAF concert party whilst serving in the Gold Coast (Ghana). Moving to Wales in 1947 proved to be a good one for there were two thousand clubs in S.Wales plus factories and Public houses all requiring entertainment. Apart from being in great demand as a children's entertainer he formed a concert party 'The Anti-Pessimists' prize winners in the concert party competition of Wales and was one of the top two concert parties entertaining in Workingmen's clubs for seven years until the members became too busy with their own line of entertainment.

Befriending a top London children's entertainer, Rex Daina, who had suffered a severe stroke and had moved to Wales, Eric invited him to see one of his children's shows and Rex was so impressed he offered to teach him Punch & Judy. Rex who was first choice children's entertainer for London Selfridges, Harrods and Gamages department stores was a good teacher and Eric a good learner and before long had devised several very funny Punch and Judy episodes. A resident entertainer with P & J on Coney Beach Porthcawl he, his son and wife Muriel, opened and ran two of the most up-to-date cinemas in great Britain. Wanting to outlive his enemies, semi-retiring in 1973 aged 52 carried on with their first love children's entertaining if and when they felt like it, devising on the way even more clever tricks and routines and lecturing in all parts of Great Britain, the Magic Castle in Hollywood and five states. Eric and Muriel still make tricks or write routines for those wanting them.

I for one am grateful for the opportunities they have given my brother Matt the Magic Man, and would like to publicly say thank you!!!

In particular USA magicians Must Check Out Eric's books, especially those on entertaining Children. His Specialised Children;s Entertainments hard back and his soft back 'Children's Routines with Funny patter & Situation Comedy for Children'is one of the finest routine books with so much comedy busines in it, that I have ever come across in 60 odd years of performing magic.2 weeks ago I used his'Jap Box' but have always substituted a triple change bag for the box, in our Theatre Company's Christmas show. I was amazed, since, how many adults (mostly unknown to me) have stopped me to say that the 'Magic Forfeits Game' was one of the finest pieces of entertainment they have ever see and ' didn't the children really enjoy it'. This in a show designed for adult audiences. Then there's 'Laughs Galore, Entertaining the 2 to 3 year olds, The Easy Way', a modest booklet with much valuable info and his 'More Brilliant Specialised Tricks and Routines' is again valuable. Then there's his patter Book and Punch & Judy publications.AND you get on the spot videos with them as well! I booked him, in the 90's,for one of the finest lectures on Children's Magic the Nottingham Guild of Magicians has ever had. USA magi, get copies whilst they're still available.
