Man, I have a problem, and I am stumped! I don't know what to do, but I was hoping that perhaps someone here has encountered a similar problem and knows a solution, so here goes...
I recently won an item on ebay, of which I have won many in the past. Now, if you are familiar with ebay, you know that after you win the item, a screen comes on that allows you to pay or it, and gives you an address to send the money to. When it got to that part, I discovered that I am now required to send money to Singapore. Man, I don't even know where the heck that is! Way in the boonies I suppose on the other side of the world! I don't have paypal, but the seller said that they accept money orders...great, because that is the way I always do it anyway. So I went down to the post office to get an international money order, and the clerk looked on his computer screen and informed me that Singapore is not even on his list and he can't do it. he suggested that I go to a bank. Fine. I proceded to the bank, and they gave me the same song and dance. They said that their money orders will not be accepted in singapore. So now I'm stuck. I went back to my PC and emailed the seller and explained my situation, and he replied that they DO INDEED accept postal and bank money orders in Singapore. So I trotted back down to the post office and explained it to them, but they were adamant that they could not do it because it was not on their list. so now I am REALLY stuck. I am out of options. I have a good reputation/rating on ebay, and I absolutely do NOT want to ruin it by not paying for a won item, but I don't know where to turn from here. Perhaps I missed a trick along the way, but man I'm stumped. So does ANYBODY here know the procedure for sending a cashable money order to Singaapore? Any help here would be vastly appreciated by yours truly. Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all!

Cant help with that, but there was a time (im in the Uk) the post office told me that I coiuld not send insured post to the US, yet I do so every week!!!
Maybe the clerk was just a idiot! would suggest trying to find a information phone number or something like that and giving them a call. Or see if there is anyone near you that can pay with their paypal account for you if you give them cash. Hope you get it sorted. Merry Christmas |

Not sure if this would help, but check Western Union.

Payments via Western Union are banned from ebay.

When it got to that part, I discovered that I am now required to send money to Singapore. 1 - Ya shoulda checked where the seller was before bidding (was the item's location on the auction mis-reported? BIG red flag!), because 2 - You will get either counterfeit goods or nothing at all from a seller in Singapore (let me guess ... DVD, right?) My recommendation: just don't pay. Ignore all the threats, you can live with just one unpaid-item strike against you - negative feedback the same, you'll survive with no particular problems. |

DaffyDoug,
The SAME exact thing happened to me. I stood my ground. Singapore IS on the list, look again. It took her three times and a supervisor, but it IS on their computer. Go back and don't take NO for an answer. They have to take a test to work there, but spelling and geography aren't sections tested. It worked out fine in the end. After you are successful with this, add to your resume, "Can work with Mental Microbes". Good Luck Steven

Just a thought Doug,
Go to http://www.usps.com and click on "calculate international postage". When you select the country, scroll down to Singapore. Do all you need then print the screen and take it down to the Post Office and educate them. I don't know how old you are, but I tell people today when they ask what I do that I don't have time to work a job, I'm too busy doing everybody else's. The incompetence in the workforce today is unbelievable, the Post Office does not have the market cornered.

If you're that darned eager to flush your money down the toilet, go ahead...
The Post Office where you are sounds like the Post Office that wanted extra postage and a customs declaration for a package to New Mexico! ("New Mexico, Old Mexico, it doesn't matter...") What the heck did you buy, anyway?? (Note - if it takes batteries and starts with the word "Pleasure," we don't wanna know, plus you can g et it cheaper a couple blocks from here ... I'm still guessing it's a DVD) |

This may help. Call the person you are getting the item from. Ask him/her what the closest post office is, and what is the number. Call them, and ask what to do. Maybe the can contact your post office and fix things up. Good luck.

Calling a post office in Singapore scares me already. Can you imagine being on hold for twenty minutes before speaking to the third or fourth clueless employee? This is going to be one expensive game. By the way, I'm not making a negative generalization of post offices. My post master is very competent and has an incredible memory. He knows most by name and that's a lot of people!
I'm currently involved in a dispute with a buyer from Singapore. She messaged me with this exact message on a "buy it now" item I had for sale: "Sorry for mistake but I didn't mean to buy this. You can leave negative feedback as it's OK". Well when you sell on a "buy it now" item on Ebay there is the cost of listing the item and then there is a "final value" fee when the item is purchased. I got to pay both for an item which didn't sell. These charges should be reversed soon but boy what a hassle it's been. I just don't see how someone could mistakenly buy something on Ebay. At one point during the bidding or buying process you are told that you are about to commit to the bid or purchase. I urge you to take Macrae's advice and if you are hit with the negative feedback, respond by stating that you don't do business with overseas sellers who don't accept paypal. I sure as heck wouldn't send them a money order. Some things to take into consideration no matter how bad you want the item up for auction: *Feedback score (I've seen "sent money and still no merchandise!") *Payment methods accepted *Country of origin Also keep in mind that Ebay highly discourages wire transfer or Western Union unless you absolutely know who you are dealing with. If the seller isn't going to accept PayPal, it's their loss. |

I have been seriously considering just that. I don't know what it entails, but I guess I have some fears that setting up one of these involves a lot of hassle and jumping through hoops. That's why I have always avoided doing it in the past.

Since it would be E-Bay who would lower your rating, I would ask E-Bay what course of action you should take in order to not screw up your good standing and to take care of the seller and recieve your product.
