Hi everyone...I was wondering if there are any "Complete Mentalist's Acts" that you can think of that are being marketed and which ones are you favorites so that I can learn a little bit more about how some of the best metalist might routine their shows...I think this is the weakest part of my performance since I don't have any direction...I just do effect after effect with no purpose. Please help.
so far I've found these: 1. Stuart Cumberland's version of Annemann's complete one man mental act 2. Chuck Hickok's Mentalism Incorporated (not sure if this is a complete show) 3. Banachek's preThoughts From these three I have only read pre thoughts and your opinion on the other two will be helpful also. Thanks, dluong |

Chuck's book is ok, but requires a lot of pre show work, which I am not fond of. I think Richard Osterlind has an act in Mind Mysteries Too. Could be mistaken though.

In Fat Free Mentalism John Riggs has a series of effects which he calls The Thrity Minutue Walk On Act. You will need a special wallet for some of the effects.
Even though Darwin Ortiz is a cardman/gaming expert..his book Strong Magic will help in terms of routining your effects and building to a climax even with a mentalism type of performance. Rick

Thanks for the quick reply guys.
jl17: I'm not a fan of pre show work either and I just recently got Osterlin's Mind Mysteries Too so I'll look into that one for sure...he's one of my favorite performers and those are some of my favorite dvds. MindPhantom: the John Riggs thing really sounds like what I'm looking for and thanks for recommending the Darwin Ortiz book because without u...i would've never thought read it. dluong |

Be sure to look into Banachek's material, especially his PSI Series. You will learn wonderful routines that you can do for the rest of your life. Plus, the props can all be bought at a 7-11.

If you go to
http://www.lybrary.com You can buy Annemann's Complete One Man Mental and Psychic Routine for $2.50 This is what Stuart Cumberland's DVD is based on. Dave Everett |

If I may suggest another approach, try Magic and Showmanship by Henning Nelms. You already know a lot of effects. Now it's time to think about character and theme. Someone else's "complete act in a box" is like an off-the-rack suit. Custom tailoring wil be so much better!

I agree with drwilson on this one. You can buy and perform a complete act of someone elses but it still will not teach you how to routing an act or develope reasoning etc. etc. Stop looking for new effects and try some other sources such as the Nelms book drwilson mentioned. There is some great stuff out there by Dariel Fitzkee as well as more modern writer like Richard Osterlind and his great writings on "Making magic real" etc. Good luck to ya,

Yes, the Fitzkee trilogy is terrific: Magic by Misdirection, The Trick Brain, and Showmanship for Magicians. Every year or so I do a fast read of Henning Nelms and Dariel Fitzkee just to help me past any blocks in my thinking.
You might also benefit from seeing how some shut-eyes operate. I went to a psychometry talk once at a psychic book store. I thought it was pretty trivial, but the audience loved it. If you had Corinda's Thirteen Steps, Mind, Myth and Magic by T.A. Waters, and Richard Webster's Psychometery from A to Z, you could do a whole twenty to thirty minutes with nothing but psychometry. You would be way better than the person that I saw doing it for "real." Yours, Paul |

If you are looking for a single "act" the best is still Theo. Annemann's.
Go to http://www.mental-list.com and you will find the complete act available in the products section as performed by Stuart Cumberland. This is what you are looking for - A COMPLETE ACT - of the best mentalism available. STAY MYSTICAL |

I hate to keep repeating myself, but if you look in Volume 3 of The Tarbell Course, there is a chapter called, "Routining A Magic Show" that is golden. Rather than just stringing effects together, a careful reading of that chapter will give you insight as to how a show should "flow" and what makes a complete show professional.

My book, Mentalism Incorporated, does contain my full corporate act. Last week, I used several routines from this book last week to present a 60 minute show. But more important, the first 50 pages of my book explains "why" I organize and perform my act the way I do. This may be what you are interested in. You can learn more about the contents of this book at: http://www.chuckhickok.com./tools.html Feel free to contact me privately if you want more info Chuck Hickok |

Necro post much? lol (This is a 13 year old thread)
Since so much time has gone by though maybe people can add some full acts that have been released in the last 13 years. Off the top of my head I can think of: Mick Ayres ACT series. There is also Docc Hilford's Perfect Mental Club Act |
