Guys,
I got an e-mail from eBay inc that looks fishy marked "Important Notice from EBay" It ask yo to "re-update" the account information, and warns about that if you fail to do so, the account will be suspended/terminated within 24 hours. After several other warnings, it concludes with "Due to suspension of this account, please be advised that you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes registering of a new account. Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you do owe to eBay. Regards Safe-harbour Department eBay, Inc the eBay team This is an automatic message, please do not reply" My e-mail address was phony, I could neither click the link nor copy anything from the text. Let me tell you that I am only registered with one single email address at eBay's, but no matter what email address I wrote as the user name, I was moved directly into an information screen, where all my credit card and other details were asked for. If you get a similar email, I don't think you should respond to it in any way, but try to contact eBay from the official site. Sven

Sven, this is called Phishing and it is highly illegal. Go directly to the eBay web site - NOT through any link on that email - and copy the email to them through their fraud reporting page.
This email was an attempt to get your credit card and personal information for something called "identity theft." eBay will NEVER email you for such information. Lee Darrow, C.H.

I've had about 5 of these. I fill the form in as eBay user name, the fbi. Password is up to you, etc.
P.S. I had one from Natwest Bank, Barclays bank, and the Halifax. I don't bank with 2 out of the three. |

Be careful about similar mails from "Paypal" as well. I have gotten several fraud mails from "Paypal" about upgrading my account etc.
I know it's a fraud, cause the e-mail came to an e-mail I have who's not registered to my eBay account. They are clever in the ways they present themselves; so it's important to be careful. I hope I don't have to learn this the hard way. -e-

Honestly, guys, NO bank, anywhere, will email anyone such an alert. They will CALL you on the telephone and be able to give YOU the private information needed to identify them as being your bank (not to mention that they will ask you to come in to a branch to deal with the matter as they NEVER deal with such things over the phone on a first call basis.
Just a word to the wise. Lee Darrow, C.H.

Also - don't reply to these kind of emails - however tempting it is to send them a rocket. Just forward them to the sender they are pretending to be and then Delete them. I can't stress this enough... if you reply all you do is let them know they have found a working email address - then you get flooded with garbage! Delete 'em and make them disappear.

I got a bunch from "pay-pal". I checked my account (going to paypal.com myself not by clicking on the link in the e-mail.) Everything was allright but I am still recieving e-mails so I closed my account. I am still recieving these e-mails. If you go to pay-pa;s website they instruct you to foward the e-mail to them @ spoof@paypal.com. The interesting thing is that these e-mails were sent to an e-mail account not listed on my now former pay-pal account.
