I was just looking through my Magic of Robert Harbin book and came across something I never noticed before.
The Preface written by Harbin had a P.S at the bottom which read: "P.S. I have written a book almost as big as this one, just after the war. The manuscript was sold to George Davenport, and it is still with the family. I have tried to buy it back--but without success. So one day watch out for the Lost Book of Harbin." Can anyone shed any light on this at all? It sure sounds like it would be worth looking for. Rennie

For many years, Davenports said they had lost the manuscript, but more recently I heard they had found it again.

I did contact Davenports regarding the Harbin book. I received a reply back this evening stating , Yes they do have a munuscript from Robert Harbin and at this time are not sure when and if they will be publishing it. This is really a fantastic find I feel, so I asked them if I could be notified of a publictaion date..So maybe we will be seeing some more magic from the brilliant mind of Robert Harbin .

Until "The Magic of Robert Harbin" is re-published....if ever, you can expect to spend 4 figures IF you can find one for sale.

Harbin said in the book that he had given a manuscript to Davenports that would be larger than his other book. So I e-mailed Davenports, thanks to the info supplied by Peter Duffie and he replied that he would advise me if they were going to publish the manuscript. That would be a hot seller huh ? Rennie

Rennie,
I misunderstood you, obviously. You did force me to go to my copy and check it out....there is was, right it he "PS" of Harbin's preface! He even said he tried to buy it back. WOW! That completely went by me. Thanks for pointing that out. Ted (Leondo) |

Ted,
I know that is really interesting. I just happened to be glancing through it the other night and like you, I said where did this statement come from? I did receive 2 e-mails from Davenports and they do have the manuscript. He said he had no plans at this time to publish it. Would I love to get my hands on that huh ? Rennie

Have you published Harbin's "Lost Book" yet? I saw you published some of his work entitled 'Magic Marches On' and I'm curious if this is the same work under a different name? If not, do you have plans to publish the lost book soon? Thanks. -Matt Hi Matt, Thank you for your message. We published the Harbin book as part of our 'Davenport Story' series volume 2, also included in this volume are previously unpublished works by Edward Victor and G.W.Hunter. Yes, this is the lost book that we had in our archives for all those years, entitled 'Magic Marches On', and includes reproductions of his original illustrations. If anyone has read this (The Davenport Story Vol 2 - Lost Legends), could you please write a brief review or share your thoughts on this. I'm particularly interested in the "never before published illusions" and the "surprise" they talk of on the site (link above)
Thanks in advance! |
