Not going out there with a specific intention. 3) An arrogant magician who uses magic as a club with which to beat his audience over the head, in order to convince them of his superiority.

There are a lot of two bit magicians, but I'm the only one who claims the title!

Me. I can't stand to see myself perform. I think I'm a hack.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

When we perform "at" them, it is simply a selfish act of showing off. In any relationship, listening and responding appropriately is key. "Intent" is the road map we've developed to guide them on this journey and "Ego" is usually the enemy of building our lasting relationship with each member of the audience on this journey. Thanks for the clear insight!

Sleight king you are the worlds worst magician.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

In my honest opinion I know that I am the worst magician. I know I am bad which is why I will not and cannot perform for anyone. I am always messing up when practing. I am being very serious here too, I am very clumsey. But one day I just might get it.
Thank for you time and reading this. Ron |

Why not reframe it thus: I am training to someday BE a magician. I'm not there yet. With practice I hope to someday be someone who can call themselves a competent magical performer whether that is amateur or pro. It is singularly unproductive to take credit for something of which you may not even be guilty. I would love to call myself a guitarist. After about 3 years of practice (about an hour a day average) I can truthfully say that I am NOT a guitarist. I'm not a 'bad' guitarist. I can play some chords and I can make some nice moves from chord to chord. But, that's not enough. Some day.....some day. Same with you. Keep working at it. You'll have spots you just don't think you can get beyond skill wise. Work twice as hard for a while and you'll suddenly find yourself that much better than you were. Don't worry about doing anything for 'people' yet. Try this: Nail ONE routine down solid. I mean just get it nailed. When you can do it 10 times in rehearsal in a row look for someone to perform it for. Go from there...... Best,
Brad Burt

Mr. Burt,
Thank you sir for your good advice. I do practice but I am a klutz. I have been trying for years but I will drop something like a coin or a card(s) or whatever and or the move didn't feel "magicial" to me. We have all seen "bad" magic and I told myself that will not be me. If I am going to do something for anybody (friend, relative or stranger) I want to make sure I am 110% that I am perfect especially in this digital age where your mistakes could end up on the internet. I have to much respect for the art of magic not to perfom at anything less than 100%. My motto in magic is "Reach for the stars even though you know you will never get there." For now I will practice and practice and try again and best of luck Mr. Burt with your guitar. Ron |

Ron:
One problem could be that you are actually concentrating too much on the actions themselves. Try and practice while watching tv. Assuming you can do whatever the move is, don't look at yourself doing it. Watch the tv and be only secondarily aware of how the move is doing. See if that helps. Best,
Brad Burt

I have a strong suspicion that the worst magician is half the people on this thread. Naturally I won't tell you which half.

Well, the worst magicians can be found on Youtube channels. Stupid kids doing stupid tricks badly Of course, I'm never the one to tell them that - in fact, the opposite. I usually yell at people who are mean to ad magicians
The worst magician is Rick Smith Jr. Watch him on the Wane Brady Show... It's incredible. |
