I just saw a young girl around 16 doing this awesome magic trick at the market today!

She folded a paper into a rose and then floated around, then lit it on fire and it burst into flames and then into a real rose!

Where can I learn this trick? Smile

Wizard,
This is a marketed effect (Kevin James' Floating Rose, or is my memory failing -- again?)
It gained wide attention when David Copperfield did it on one of his specials.
You can get the video on Kevin James' website, or from any large dealer.

This is a very simple illusion to pull off, and while you can buy the "marketed" effect, that’s not really necessary.

Though not really necessary, if you plan on performing this effect, please buy the marketed version. Kevin James put a lot of hard work into developing this routine and he deserves the respect of performers paying him for his work. The video is easily available (PM me if you have trouble finding it.) It is a wonderful effect and well worth the cost of the tape.

Thanks,
Richard Green

Do you know why when they magical burn off the paper flower, it produces a huge flame, which doesn't normally happen when burning off a paper???? Are there any chemical substances involved??? Smile Smile

Funnybusiness,
You need to use flash paper to get that burn.

At the magic shop. Please consider Kevin’s tape on the floating rose. Lots of tips you will never figure out on your own.

Giday funnybusiness.

If you are interested in the flash paper or anything else that burns or explodes you need to recognize it is also dangerous for both yourself and you audience. Lots of care and practice is needed with this type of performance.

There is a whole section in the Café related to burning type effects and the instruction at the beginning about flash paper is something worth reading.

The video sounds like it is worth looking at, so I might keep and eye out for it myself.

One thing about the floating rose is that it takes a lot of practice (like anything) to make it look like it should. It's romantic, shocking, and beautiful, and wows women like you wouldn't believe. The flash paper that is needed in the effect can be found at almost any magic shop - just make sure you keep it in the envelope, and in a safe place, as it CAN ignite. Very easily, I might add.

Vinnie said that the tape isn't necessary to perform the illusion, but like Callin said, it's most necessary to perform it the way it should be done.

The price tag on the video says it all. It's a dynamite routine that should be practiced to perfection. It would be a shame to rush performing this effect.

It is amazing Smile. I can say that much.

Just a quick fact:

If some of you remember the TV show 'The Pretender', there was one episode where the floating rose was used. Kind of neat, well, at least I thought so. Well... uh... yeah.

Yep, I would highly suggest you get Kevin James's video. Lots of great tips that you will need to perform this effect and give it justice. This is probably of the best effects I have seen using I.T. In fact, its one of the best effects I've seen, period.

While the effect is good, I must say that the video is too overpriced. I remember some years ago that it cost somewhere about $60!! Too expensive for someone who has knowledge on the subject. I've found booklets that have many wonderful effects of this kind for $3!! (Invisible Thread and flash paper, and they give you good advice on how to handle them.) A funny thing is that this booklet even gives you a floating rose routine. Smile

That's the list price, but you can get it for less -- e.g., Penguin has it for $44.95.

Worth it I think to really get an idea of what it should look like. Then take what you find in books and other sources and make it your own.

Actually it's not. There are a lot of things to consider when performing it.

As for it being "not really necessary" it is. Performing the Floating Rose without purchasing the video is called theft.

You don't make a living as an entertainer do you?

It's priced that way for serious buyers. That way any "Jonny Come Lately" can't just perform it on a whim.

It reflects the years of work that Kevin put into it perfecting it and developing it.

Please don't perform this effect without purchasing the video.
