I would appreciate it if anyone could suggest magic books that are out-of-print and good enough that they are worth the effort looking for in used book stores.
It would help if they were popular enough that I actually had a chance of finding them used. Are there any sites which list info on OOP magic books? For example: Cards as Weapons by Ricky Jay. Thanks --Kris |

I heard Darwin Ortiz’s book on sponge ball magic is the best of it's kind. It is out of print and I heard is quite expensive if you find a copy.
Sorry, I don’t know the title. Does anyone know?

It’s hard to imagine Darwin Ortiz doing a sponge ball book. Do you mean Frank Garcia?
As far as books out-of-print, the Curry books used to be worth chasing down and because of that I was a little sad to see the new book published. |

I’m sorry you're right it is Frank Garcia. My apologies if I confused anyone.

I recently got my hands on Darwin Ortiz's CardShark which is oop. Also Steve Mayhew's Angels May Shuffle But the Devil Still Deals. I know I'm not being of any help. Just excited about my recent hard to find additions.

There are TONS of excellent OOP books. As a matter of fact, I rarely buy new books, unless they are reprints, compilations of magazines or by authors or performers I already know and trust.
A few of the best, IMHO: Bruce Elliot's "Classic Secrets of Magic." George Kaplan's "Fine Art Of Magic." Earl Nelson's "Variations" JK Hartman's "Card Craft" The Hoffman books Any Al Baker book Any Al Koran book Any Lewis Ganson Book Ken Brooke and Friends etc, etc, etc.

Thanks Scott, exactly what I was looking for, a list of good things that I don’t already know about to store away in case I stumble upon them.
I love reading your posts I just about always find them helpful! --Kris |

Thanks!
I get most of mine from used magic book dealers (some of which you'll find in the above posts), either at dealers room at conventions or just by checking their sites and/or calling them, or by checking eBay regularly.

Hope this is not regarded as too much of an advert but it seemed very relevant to this thread and I won't mention it again here.
I publish an infrequent list of shop-soiled and used books, magazines etc. Email me if you want to get "the Backroom" or if there is a particular item you are looking for. johnbw@optusnet.com.au

A good spot for used books is H & R magic books. Richard Hatch is super to work with and tries to keep his site up to date. If you want the latest, I would recommend a phone call...

If escapology/magic is included:
Henry Hardin’s Lost Manuscript: Famous Escapes And Master Wonders Of Modern Science 80 in circulation $25 is usual price “Oudini’s”Secrets Of The Great Mysteries – Robert William Doidge DON'T pay more than $75 (many dealers try to rip people of with this one)
A direct from text adaptation : The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Starring Mickey Rooney in his final role.
