As said before, I use a 1-10, with 10 being PERFECT rating scale. Just so you know as well NOTHING EVER gets a 10. 10 is absolute perfection, and NOTHING, and NO ONE is Perfect. 9.5 is my highest rating. I ONLY write 10, just to show how close something can come to being PERFECT. I judge on The Tricks, (Impact), Technique, Teaching Style & Understanding, and Video Quality, such as Camera Angles...ECT.
1) Cheater's Aces - This is a moderate in skill King cutting routine, with at the end you cut to a spot card, in which the ace is found at that number all the while cutting and shuffling the cards. This is a great opener which the audience seemed to like. I rate this a (8). 2) Spread 'Em - This is basically the tail end of of the above trick. Here you tell how someone has theorized how you did the trick. So you disperse the Kings in the 10th, 20th, 30th, and 40th positions of the deck puck the cards flush. You then spead them face down, and actually show those cards to be aces. This seems like it would really require a knack. I rate this a (7). 3) Ultimate Topsy Turvy Aces - I actually didn't know that this was a trick already out there, though this is his version. I just thought this was a Triumph / Ace Cutting Trick. This is the BEST TRICK BY FAR on the tape, and really fooled me the most. This was / is the most and BEST Triumphy type of routine I've ever seen. He mixes the cards Face-Up, / Face-Down, and he CLEARLY spreads the cards to show that. He then cuts the deck till he gets the aces, with the last ace being the ONLY CARD in a face-down deck. This FREAKING KILLS !!! This also has to be one of the TOUGHEST as well as his false-dealing tricks on this tape / DVD. I HIGHLY RATE THIS A POWERFUL (9.5). 4)The Spectator Estimates The Aces - In this trick he mixes the aces in the deck and then has the spectator cut the aces, except he cuts to the last ace himself. This trick is VERY POWERFUL if it works, but if not, this will be a BOMB, I think. He covered it well but even at one point the spectator misses a ace. To me I think from doing Escapes in my beginning years of Magic I ONLY like / do tricks that are at LEAST 99% "Sure Fire". To me, I just wouldn't risk it, when they're are just as GOOD routines of this type and suring fire, such as Bill Malone's Cut 'Em High & Tie, and David Regal's Clean Cut. This will get a rating of (8.5) ONLY if it goes off without a hitch, if not I rate this a (5). (After this point on the back of the Tape that the order of the tricks aren't in the order shown. I hope I myself got them write) 5) The Expert At The Bridge Table - This is a routine where Andrew shuffles the cards, and, deals....ECT, and deals himself all spades. He goes into the Hofsinzer Cull. I'll rate this a (8). 6) The Wimhurst Poker Deal - This is awesome. He first explains the formula of a overhand stack, as if it were easy. He then does it REALLY giving out the formula, the people laugh and have fun. He then goes into really difficult, deals doing the second, bottom, and center deals. This has to be the hardest item on the tape. In one instance they think he's dealing cards ones place wherein actuality he winds up with 4 aces. This gets a (9). 7. How To Cheat At 21 - I have mixed feelings on this. I think his routine his GREAT, and he has quite a few bits and gags. This has a "Mental Magic" theme. The person deals 21 cards, and gets one at "Random". The performer divinely gets the card. My reservations is, that people might automatically walk off or mentally cut you off, as without giving you the time or chance, before 5 seconds into a routine. He does this routine superbly. As with ALL YOUR ROUTINES, you really have to have great patter and "Hook Them" quickly so they don'y think they've seen this before. I rate this a (6-8), depending on the performer's presentation. 8. Aussie Cooler - This is a Great routine in which he uses a glimpse to know a card. The person, then chooses it a few more time. At one point the card goes into his pocket. Another time all the card except their card (51 cards to pocket) goes into the pocket. Lastly the wrong card turns into their correct card, the card being the SAME CARD everytime. This is a great routine in which you learn a deck switch. (8.5) 9. Johnny Mnemonic - This is a great finally. He has the deck shuffled by the SPECTATOR. The deck is split in two halves, each one person (2 people) pick a card from their halves. The cards, are put in the opposite havles, and so on, after the cards (deck) memorized by the performer. He goes through the cards a few times, and finds each person's cards. The cards are mixed. He gives himself all Spades (Not in Order) in a Bridge Hand, then he shows the other hands all IN ORDER with the same suit. This routine killes. It gets a solid (9). This tape all and all is great. I'd say out of the performers that I have on DVD / TAPE, that the hardest tapes are Hollingsworth (London Collection), Swain (Miracles With Cards), and my personal favorite Cardman Ortiz (All the tapes I got of his), and Andrew's stuff in right up there, especially with Ortiz. Their styles are similar. Andrew is a good performer. He may not be a laugh a minute as Bill Malone, but he has a great style. In this tape you'll see him clapping with the audience for himself so to speak....lol. I'm wondering how many who already owns this tape has caught on to this...LMAO !!! He DOESN'T teach ALL STUFF like riffle stacking nor false deals, as the tape would take way too long to teach, which is understandable. In what he does teach 95% of the material he does teach with great detail. Overall, I reccomend HIGHLY this tape for the SERIOUS Card Worker as this stuff in Intermediate-Advanced. I rate this tape a (8).

I have no idea. Historically George Devol, was a huge Gambling Cheat in the 1800's I believe, but am not sure. Don't get me wrong, that's his username BUT he does sign off as Andrew Wimhurst. Check out the username, and you'll see. Ed, (Eddini).

2 things:
1: He hasnt posted as George devol for a long time, he switched to real name awhile ago... http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/bb_pr......user=735 There is no user named George Devol.... 2: if he WAS still george devol, why would you publicaly out him without talking to him first? I'm not saying it was a secret but dang you shouldnt out people like that imho... just make him have to change to another name or causes headaches. I know because he has switched to new name awhile back its not a huge deal, but really if someone WAS posting under a psuedonym, let them without outing them needlessly... but only my opinion, feel free to disagree |

What the heck Daegs? I didn't out him. He signs off as Andrew. Also I liked his tape so much, and I gave it a review, I figured if people wanted to tag him for questions, or compliment him...ECT, they would know WHO to tag. To him, NOT YOU, Andrew, if you feel like I outed you, I'm sorry. I just feel you're such a GREAT Card Worker, that people could give you great PM'S or ask you questions of there own. Daegs, again, I haven't done nothing to you, and I've done what I thought was good, and a good compliment to him. You sir just have a bone to pick not just with me but others I've noticed. Besides this belongs in a PRIVATE PM, and that's where you should've asked me, as this is a REVIEW section, Ed, (Eddini).

Okay since you nicened your post, we'll agree to disagree. I haven't been on awhile. I didn't know he changed his name. What's his new one? I have PMed him before if I remember right. I did everything with the greatest of intentions. I apologize if I'm "Over-Sensitive" (As usual)...lol, about this, Ed, (Eddini).

Yeah.... it isn't really a big deal. I'm not saying it is either.
I posted it rather than PM as anyone who reads this and see's the title, can also read my post about generally not outing people if they choose to have another name.... Another example is Gary Plants who post here frequently under a username that is not his own. He will sign his post sometimes and it is commonly known what his username is, but at the same time people aren't making topics that blast out "XXX is Gary Plants". He may not care, but the fact that its not his username should be enough to dissuade people from outing him for no reason, at least imho based on net etiquette that I've learned. I'm not doubting your intentions and I really don't have a bone to pick about it, I just wanted to have a post up so that in the future if someone reads this then later on thinks about making a topic title that outs someone, they might think twice and PM the member to see what their wishes are(i'm not even saying you did any wrong, just that its something to be considered in the future) Anyway, his new name is "Andrew Wimhurst" and the link to his profile which has his name and PM inbox and whatnot is in the link in my post. |

Yes Daegs thanks. I did see his username and I thank you for squaring his name. You know, not that anyone would tell me anyway, if people like Copperfield, Lance Burton, Bill Malone, Chriss Angel, David Blaine, Segfried & Roy....ECT post here. I'm sorry I'm using this space as this is for reviews and that's what I'd LIKE FEEDBACK ON, but quickly I wonder if anyone knows if any of the above mentioned people post here FOR FACT. Name the Magician please, but not there username if they wouldn't want it. My guess is YES, and BIG YES that they post here, but since they're so big, I'm guessing and I don't blame them for using another name or they'd LITERALLY be getting hundreds of PM'S a day. I'm sorry for accussing you of picking a bone with me. I just feel like I purposely get "attacked", and am rather thin-skinned, and tempermental. I apologize at any rate. Thanks again Daegs, Ed, (Eddini).
P.S. Again buy Mr. Andrew Wimhurst's tape as he is one of the BEST CARD TECHNICIANS, especially for his age. I'll be 30 this August, and I'm guessing we're close in age. It's amazing someone as young as he it, and to see how advanced he is.

Hi Eddie,
Thanks for the review, which was unexpected as the tape came out years ago, around the time I sort of dropped out of magic (though some friends have encouraged me to start practicing again). No big deal about the username stuff. By the way, the tape was filmed in the seventies but released in 2002. I just turned 54. Best Andrew

OMG (Eyes Popped Out) Really Andrew, I didn't know that. For years I never saw your tape on the video shelve at Hank Lee's until a few years ago, and the date I thought said 200?. Wow, I never knew that. Still though you were (still are) pretty young with such technical abilities. Your Ultimate Topsy Turvey Aces is the BEST TRIUMP routine of that type I've seen as I've told you before. Wow you got me there, on the year. I was tricked again...lol, Ed, (Eddini).

I just saw the performance yesterday (don't have time to see the whole explanation yet) and I must see his skill is wonderful. I especially like his poker deal routine. Also the explanation is clear with different angles.

Out of curiosity why did you drop out of magic? Just curious as it seems so unlikely for someone of your very high skill level.

Actually seth, you would be suprised.
I think it was Kostya(I coudl be wrong) who used the quote "The match that burns the brightest also burns out the quickest" or something to that effect to describe magicians. It's very true... those that have the drive to become very good spend A LOT of time to become that way, and that kind of focus on one thing is easy to break... often if they get interested in something else, it is very easy to focus on THAT(due to the personality that wants to be the very best at whatever they are doing). |

Ed, I agree that this tape is very good, but I don't understand why you say that "the spectator cuts the aces" is so iffy. I perform this every time someone asks me to show them something. I have never had it go so disasterousely wrong as for the trick to bomb.
you're telling them where to cut in the deck, then you have two options of a card to select, but you don't tell them that... if they're way off on the first cut I just say something like.. man, you suck at this... (they laugh, all in good fun) and tell them to try again... they usually get it the second time, I have never had anyone miss more then once and if they miss on the third cut you can say.. well that's reasonable because there is a lot less aces in the deck now. the odds are a lot lower of you cutting to an ace. but as I said.. if they miss once they usulally get it the next time. then I end the trick by doing a few shuffles and calling out the placement (in numbers like.. 16th down) from the deck. I get great reactions every time. out of curiosity have you ever tried performing this trick on anyone? (i'm not saying this cockily (not a real word) but asking out of pure curiosity. |

No a lot of the stuff on the tape I can't do, like riffle stacking or false dealing. How to cheat at 21 is the only one I think I've done off this tape Cliff. I'm glad it works out for you, Ed, (Eddini).
