If 80s metal rockers could do magic, you'd get Chris Angel.
I personally did not really care for his style of magic at first. But I just borrowed his Mind Freak DVD and watched more of his specials. They are great I think! His levatation episode killed me. I think I will be spending triple digits to get his Master Mind Levitation DVD so I can make the levitation illusion. |

I enjoy both David Blaine & Criss when they stick to Magic. As far as one copying the other... I don't see that really. Other than the fact that they're both on TV and both take a trip away from Magic doing various stunts... that someone apparently likes.
There are many different ways to to do almost any effect. I think Criss' coin effect you mentioned is MILES different from David's bite the coin routine. His building walk couldn't be more different than Davids levitation and the snakes? I don't care who does what with them as long as I don't have to watch ... YUCK! Every time I see someone do a chop cup routine... I don't think, "aw he's just copying Don Alan"... I enjoy his or her performance, wait and see what the final load is and think about whether or not their routine is better than mine... and if it is...I just may have to adjust mine! (I end up doing a lot of adjusting) I am not saying if I like one better than the other.... it doesn't matter and there's been plenty said on that subjiect already. As Photius mentioned, they've brought much attention to the art of Magic and for that I am grateful. Magic is "cool" again with a lot of people. I was in a restaurant the other day doing some things at dinner when the waiter said, "hey have you seen that Criss Angel guy" and then went on to say how much he enjoyed him. He's having an impact, just like David did and I'm happy about it. Even if I do have to sit through Pole standing & blowing yourself up in a box. (truth is I don't sit thru them... I Tivo and FF) At least that's my opinion... I wish all a good day! Bobby |

I find him annoyingly fake, but I can't help but admire how popular he's become in such a short time. Must have a great agent.

I like David Blaine because he will use the occasional slieght of hand and manipulation but Criss on the other hand is all gimmicks which makes the magic more visual at times but less believable, though Criss's presentation I do like, he gives magic the mysterious and voodoo twist that I find is more entertaining for the right crowd. There is new magic developing for this day and age and the audience it will affect.
Keep staring, maybe I'll do a trick.

Well, in my opinion, any magician who appears on TV and promotes our craft has somehow done something to promote Magic awarness, which is good for all of us.
I agree with Photius. |

Chriss has huge potential. He is obviously a very skilled sleight of hand magician and I wish he stuck more to the cards and coin area. IMHO, he is too heavily realiant on stoogery at the moment while pulling off those "impossible" effects i.e. Deja Vu. Now I'm not slateing him for that- greats such as Anneman have used stooges- rather I'm critisising his over-use of them. Maybe now he that he has his reputation made, he can concentrate more on real-world effects.

I love his style but not to fond of his perfoming ,i find there is more camera set-up than skill.
Maybe I'm wrong ..::ACE::..

There is one undeniable truth that can not be argued even by his detractors (I personally do not enjoy him in the least) Chris is an ORIGINAL. And how long has it been since magic has seen a genuine dyed in the wool original member of our ranks? Like him or not he is as original as can be and for that I salute him!
I may not like his style or his performance or reliance on tech and stooges, but so what? He is out there and he is making it happen and to tell the truth he entertains HIS audience. Which is all that can be asked of any performer. Lets see how history treats his legacy. Blaine has become "David who?". I believe Chris, even if he has a short run, will leave a much more perminant mark. THAT is a good thing. See Ralpho2, no bashing.

IMHO:
I can't stand this act. I saw his one special (the car on the bed of nails). I hated it. It looked fake, the audience behaved like actors. The man acts like the love child of KISS and some trashy goth band. The thing with the meathooks alone I think is grounds for institutionalization. glatner |

How about telling us what you did like? THere had to be something.. at least you can admit that you sat thru it all till the end. Hahahhaa!
I actually did not watch that episode with him hanging on hooks. I thought it was cheap. The best is when he does magic stuff and not stunt stuff. I also think that the hummer thang with the bed of nails is another stupid trick. Woop-de-do. Lets see if you can open a hummers locked doors without keys! No that would be magic! |

I can tell you what I LIKE about him.
he is an original. I don't particularly find him entertaining, but he is original and in magic today, THAT needs to be saluted!

Personally, I find him entertaining, but he looks far too much like Paul Stanley from KISS to pull off all the vanity he carries, and his brothers need a good acting coach. Their 'I'm so worried about him, he's never doing this again' stuff comes across like bad high school theatre.

I don`t like when people say: He must have a great agent... or Yeaah his good but he have a lot of money. I now people that says: "Copperfield, he make easy tricks... beacuse all this boxes and assiatnts work for him... and he is very rich so He can but anything..." - common its not true... he work for this
And I think similiar situation is with CA... Man have an idea how to sell his magic and it work... I don't like all his "tricks" like hanging on hooks and other stunts. But some of his tricks are good. He`s style is (for me) little to "Hard breathing" (watch episode when he leviate he always have problems with breath:) ) . Some tricks are stupid like voodo doll... but I like him... bitterman have right with this kiss black magic style(which is funny) (but orginal and interesting) and bad acting (no only brothers)

I personally think Criss Angel is great! Comparing Criss Angel and David Blaine, Criss definately gets my vote.
Criss Angel is a headliner at his own theater show before doing his TV specials, unlike Blaine. Also I think Criss's Mind Freak series is very cleverly compiled together and also entertaining for tv viewers. Although most of the illusions performed definately have certain camera limitations but I would personally give credit to him. Cyril Takayama from Japan perform some incredible acts in his TV show too. And I too give him credit for the ideas he use in his Street Magic Specials. Cyril is a great friend and also a great stage magician/manipulator. Regards, Jeremy |

Criss Angel is cool, I like what he has accomplished till now.
As mentioned he's done a lot to get magic back on the "hot list", his Mindfreak series is without a doubt the most innovating and modern magic done on television, but I guess it comes with a budget though, having Banachek and Thompson helping you out all the time probably costs money I say keep on giong Criss, but try to keep your shirt on (we've seen your six-pack abs enough times already) -e-
...As long as i`m not a world-champion at anything, the great reactions of doin` magic will do just fine.....
