"I'm not a fan of Criss Angel, or David Blaine for that matter. I don't really respect guys who use stooges in their performances, especially on the street. "
- whizzomagic --I'm sure David Blaine and Chris Angel are really upset ... ;-> |

The goal of magic is to entertain.
Chris's goal is to entertain. David's goal is to entertain though in my opinion that can be debated. If you don't like their style of magic don't watch it. Chris is doing a good job ..but I feel he needs to get away ...far away from the exhibition stuff as that turns people away from his show. Even David Copperfield uses stooges ....it is how you use them that is important. Later, Mobius |

Like many others have said he is a great refreshment from Blaine, who is nice ot watch once in a while, when you feel you don't know anything, and then you see him and know everything he is do in, haha. I personally love criss' levitations, I JUST finished watching his masterminds dvd on levitation, I forked out the 100$, and it was great, amazing detail, and, this is not very common, the trick still amazes me even though I know the secret. I think the man deserves pleanty of respect and is reminding everyone one out there what magic is, and making them want more, FROM US. cheers

I'm sorry but I will repost and say that Chris angel has no great effects. here's why: I'm on t.v and I walk up to a spectator and make a friggin dinosoaur appear. that's amazing. And we have some people who will say "oh that's t.v magic" no it's not t.v magic,it's not even magic. it's camera editing. the use of stooges? the use of stooges is great if they help you accomplish an effect. but not when the stooge itself is the spectator the magic is being performed on. I'm on t.v and walk up to stooge "think of a card...you have one...you're thinking of the 8ofhearts" that's amazing. but not really. THANK YOU!!! This is my exact point. How is it magic when you are performing magic on a stooge? It's different if the stooge is 'assisting' in the performance, but when you are performing your effects on a stooge, and you have pre planned their every move and thought, then it's not magic, it's scripted junk; no different than watching magic being performed on a sitcom. Real street magic or impromptu magic is about performing for someone who has no idea whats about to happen. Stooges helping accomplish an effect, i.e happening to have a hank of rope in their pocket or a $1 for a bill fold, and such is fine, and I'm all for that. But using a stooge in the way that Angel and Blaine does is an atrocity and cheapens the art of magic. |

In my opinion, both Blaine and Criss are good. Both of them,do amazing stunts, tricks and illusions. The only different between them is that,Criss Angel has his own magic show and stage, and Blaine doesn't.I do know one thing,if Cyril Takayama would want to do,what Angel and Blaine are doing right now,he could become#1 most attractive illusionist in usa.He is performing a lot in his country Japan. Now,there is a video if him performing in Paris.
ps:the only bad thing, that Criss Angel is doing is his bad language.A lot of f word, when he do something amazing. This could be a reason, why some people may not like him. |

Since when is it a crime for a magician to speak like normal human being?

I'm a fan of Criss' illusions, but he marketed an extremely good illusion, and now it can easily be learned by doing a web search. I don't agree with stooges, nor do I agree with exposure. I have mixed thoughts about Criss. His show is fun but I've heard bad things about his attitude.

Like him or hate him, he's unique, talented, very entertaining and has his own spin on performing!
If you don't care for him, simply turn the channel or don't buy a ticket!! Cliff |

He's brought magic back to the mainstream. David Blaine took a hiatus and is now coming back with another show as well. It's going to be a magical May!

I just saw the premier (first episode) of Mindfreak. What the hell? The whole thing FEELS set up. The flying thing, the think of a card. Some of the spectators.
Give me Blaine any time. At least he can present something that requires some talking, not just an imitation of the Crow with a leather hat - except when he's 'flying'. |

Interesting point. You got the sense the illusions were previously set up...dang him to heck for that I tell you, at least Blaine doesn't prepare before hand.

Yea give me Blaine any time. Absolutly nothing he does is set up in any way. He never uses stooges either. Yea yea.

I have to say that I enjoy Criss.
He gets a bad rap from a lot of people in the magic community, just as many more "mainstream" magicians have over the past few decades. I'm as offended as many of you are about his revealing of various effects to the general public. I'm still sore about people revealing Balducci on television, but it's going to happen. Perhaps its best if you stop trying to take Angel so seriously, and see him as what he is. A hell of a performer. Some of his escapes and such totally blow me away, just based on the presentation alone. Personally, I'm glad he's around. That's just my opinion though.
A Trick? Well yes there are quite a few "tricks" I can do, but alas there are women and children present. Find me later.

Great first post. Hero worship.
A heck of a performer? Are you kidding me? THAT is the issue! Man you need to watch his specials more.

I think the idea behind a lot of his escapes are very good and very entertaining. But to say he is a great performer is a stretch. We are still talking about the guy that goes off a ramp on a motor cycle disapoears in mid air (fantastic stunt) appears in the middle of the crowd only to yell "ya" right?

Personally, I don't care for his show. It just doesn't click with me. Perhaps, I could judge him more fairly if I ran into him on the street.
As I've said before, I've never really been "wowed" by the modern famous magicians. It is regular guys I've actually met...much like most of us, I'd imagine... that truly inspire awe. |

So often I hear magicians bashing guys like Criss and Blaine. But hey, look at them. They are out performing! They are on TV. How often do people who know you're into magic mention one of their names? I am a fan of Criss Angel, now granted I don't particularly like his HEAVY use of stooges, but it is entertaining, and there is certainly more drama and character than Blaine (Whom I highly respect). I don't think you can put someone like that down unless you also have hit television specials.
