Hi Guys,
Two effect I am keen to place in my show, but have not found the ideal method. 1. Ask a spectator to think of a ATM pin number, his name etc and then do a reveal on a large pad of paper. I am not keen on the Sw...i gimmick as the writing is confined to a small piece of paper, any better methods or gimmicks I should be purchasing ? 2. I noticed both Criss Angel and Derren Brown do a effect in which they predict the item a person will be buying inside a shopping mall, I would love to do this effect as part of a stage routine. Did anybody see this and once again any possible ideas on a good method Appreciate the help Andre

First learn the basics of mentalism, and then the principles of pre-show work and see if you can find your answers.

Also you can do both the said effects if you study the art of pocket writing

I appreciate the info, maybe my post is not worded correctly. I am not a beginner in mentalism, I am looking for a more modern method than pocket writing or using certain gimmicks to achieve results. I was wondering if there are better metods available or more recently released methods ?

OK, as an experienced mentalist, you know there are 6 basic methods to do this.
Force/influence, preshow data collection (clipboard or other method), Performance time data collection (Peek, clipboard, or other method), write down the information after it had been revealed (mental epic, assistant, or other method), or just plain guess. Your choice, but I have the feeling that you might want to check into the Mental Epic type presentation. Hopefully this will get you pointed in a direction for the effect. My way of developing presentations is to this of what I want to accomplish, fine tune that and get the specifics. Next I brainstorm and write down every possible (probable or improbable way that I can accomplish the task or parts of the task). Then I go back and look at methods, what I want to do, and find a couple of practical methods from my list. Toss out what does not work, fine tune and simplify the method and the effect. This is an on going process. Eventually, I'll come up with a simple solution and an easy to understand plot. Good luck Tony |

I think that for #1 you should consider doing pre-show.

Kaylan, agree with you.
For number two, if you don't like pre-show, try to pick a girl, 90 percent she will think of a clothes store and just force any item you want with some nice subtlelties.

Andre,
While I have a great deal of appreciation for your question, I too, would question your experience. The reason for this is that I almost instantly thought of a number of ways to do these. BUT, so that I do not come off as a TOTAL jerk, I would suggest for you the following. 1.This could easily be done, real time, with a brown hornet... BUT, I would strongly advise against using a pin #. There are numerous reasons for this. 2.I think that if I were going to do the shopping mall bit, I would use a piece by Max Maven(I do not remember the name of it) But it does use a NW and it is very powerful. Preshow and stooges are always an option, but there are dozens of cleaner ways of doing it. I really hope that you find this helpful. Peace, Parson

Hypn, the reason I've suggested you of pre-show instead of the methods above is that pre-show will get MUCH better reactions than p.e Max Maven routine, which is ok but not what you named that Derren did.
If it suites your style, off you go, but be aware that the reactions will be less impressive than with pre-show.

I found all my answers there. If you want to see how it looks like you have it on his dvd skullduggery...although it is not dramatic as it should be you can see the scripting in da real world.
