Hmm,...
this looks very, very similar (maybe too similar) to an old marketed effect called Blasted. There are two versions (original and Jr.): http://www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/mon......tannens/ http://www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/mon......tannens/ If this is the same method, than somebody has some explaining to do.

Since a duplicate coin is required the process can serve to switch out a gaff coin, leaving you with one that can be handled. Vinny's effect is included in the book "T.U.C. Appreciation" for that reason. After using a TUC in an effect you follow with the Glass Pentetration and then use the new coin in another effect. The gaff coin is later ditched with any suspicion of a special coin averted. Many effect can serve the same "switch-cover" function, but the highly visual nature of a glass penetration seems ideal.

Obviously, your effect uses a gimmick (as per ad) -- and it could allow for the switch of one of the coins if that was helpful to a later routine, i.e. the two coins at the end do not have to be the same as the original two. "atomic" (or other name) does seem to be a very visual demonstration. Vinny's method accomplished the same thing without any gimmick and is free for the asking, but does require some practice and skill. So, atomic might be a good choice and the tray usable for other things as well.

An impromptu coin through glass with no duplicate coin is Ross Bertram's "Coin in a Tumbler" One place it can be found detailed is "The Art of Close Up Magic Vol 1" by Lewis Ganson. I used to do it a lot many years ago.
I always thought this version looked the most magical for the stand up performer, but out of my price range, lol. http://www.mylovelyassistant.com/products/view/7493 |
