Tubed Out has always played well for us. People always come up after shows and swear that the girl must have slipped out of the box somehow which is not the secret at all. She remains in the illusion the whole time - which just looks impossible. Your assistant could also do a costume change in it if you like.

It packs fairly flat and is angle proof and crowd proof so if you should get mobbed by a crowd after a show no one will discover the secret if someone manages to peek inside. Small footprint too for small venues.

It would be a simple build if plans were available, but, I'm not sure who owns the rights to the illusion. I purchased ours from Devin Knight although Tilford may be the exclusive distributor. There are a few seconds of it in our promo video which you can see on our web site: http://www.kistlerministry.org

I think some of us may be getting away from doublelift's original point. From his first post it seems that he is interested in constructing his own illusion. If that is the case, I would have to put up another vote for a Sub Trunk. Unfortunately, things like Interlude and Origami (and even the Zig Zag) are not in the public domain...but we can still dream, no one can take that from us.

Personally I always try my best to run away from Interlude as fast as I can! (No offense to anyone, I just don't like it.)

Another goodie I'd have to toss in there is Airtime.

I will go for subtrunk, its a classic and a very good tool for an illusion show and even in an escape act...

I also have the Tubed Out. It's great ... but I still think Zig Zag beats it. I also agree with Chris' view of Interlude. It's one of those tricks that I just don't get. The method just seems so obvious to me, I can't see how it can possibly fool anyone.

Funny, it just hit me that the Zig Zag and Interlude are similar in many ways, and yet I see them at opposite ends of the spectrum. I wonder if I'm seeing it as a magician rather than a lay spectator ...

If I was building the illusion myself, it would be either the sub trunk or shadow box. Both are easy to build and are classics for a reason.

This was great, thanks for all the input. I wonder if anyone ever built a combination sub trunk that also worked as a tip over? I don't see why it couldn't be made multi function.

Actually, it is a rather common combination to build a sub/tip trunk. I have seen quite a few of them over the years.

It's interesting to me that I own both illusions, but have never found myself wishing that one would do the other's function. I guess that I would have to have a fantastic presentational idea to justify the combo...

My motivation for a combo effect is based on storage space first. That isn't good enough reason to justfy it in itself. But it helps.

Actually, there is a plan available (I just can't remember from where) that has a COMBINATION sub-trunk/tipover trunk. This would increase the versatility of the equipment and give you two illusions in one.

It would seem to me that the "Tipover" aspect of the trunk would lessen the Sub Trunk effect. Part of the strength of the ilusion is that the trunk can be examined. Obviously, he tipover aspect would prohibit the tunk from being seen as "ungimmicked" or "ordinary."

There are very few powerful Sub Trunk presentations that do not allow for trunk inspection. Siegfried & Roy's comes to mind, but they hit hard and quickly with the cat appearance, which is strong enough to counter the non-inspection aspect.

As most of you know, I own every illusion in the book, even a Owen cannon,,,BUT if I could only have just one illusion,,hand down it would be the Lester Lake head chopper. I have a real beauty built by Bill Smith,,you can throw the chopper in your trunk (car),,do it on club dates, or anywhere,,get a ton of laughs,,Russel Swan made a living with it for years, years ago when I did a lot of Club dates it was always my close I have owned several over the years,,it is really hard in this day and age to get one of the name builders to make one for you,,,today for a top of the heap chopper you are probably talking about 6 or 7 grand,,maybe more Stan Kramien
