Hi, everyone. Just a query...any books you'd like to see reprinted or brand new books no one's done? Just curious.

Any chance you can convince Penn and Teller to chronicle their history and thinking about their show? I'd be most interested in learning the research, shaping, rehearsal, and revisions that went into even one of their routines. Curt |

Andrew: I LOVE Programmes of Famous Magicians, a Max Holden book later reprinted by Magic Inc. In fact, I think Magic Inc. has recently reprinted it. I think an in-depth new edition would be a great idea!

Craig: Your wish is granted. Stephen Minch's Hermetic Press is working on new versions of The Five Points in Magic and The Magic Way, as well as the third book Tamariz planned for this trilogy.

Hi Todd,
First - I have most of your books and really appreciate their quality - I consider them to be some of the highlights of my collection. Two books I would really like to see done are Del Ray who has already been mentioned in previous posts. Another performer that has had a very unique career and I believe would be an interesting subject touching on the many facets of his life as a magician producing large illusion shows that toured the US and Canada, as a circus ringmaster, running a magic and costume shop, and several other unusual ventures. I really believe the life of Phillip Morris would make a fascinating read. Looking forward to "Benson" and more great reads from The Miracle Factory.... Dave |

Thanks, Dave. Maybe you should write a book on Morris! And I'm looking forward to Benson, too!

I would love to see some books that give a greater look at Jay Ose and Francis Carlyle.

Bill: Yes, definitely. There was a Francis Carlyle book years ago that Magic Limited published but it's long out of print, sadly.

Carlyle book was done by Roger Pierre, his only student, really. It was good, as it went, but Roger left out a lot of detail. It was his first book. It should be re-done...

Paul: This is the kind of situation I try very hard to avoid with our books. It's such a shame to have a book that is supposed to be a thorough look at a man's effects and lifetime, and it turns out less than complete!

Todd, I would love to see a project along the lines of "The Annotated Nelms". There are actually enough annotations in my copy to get the ball rolling. Also, maybe the effects he uses as examples could be revised/ updated or changed so that there would be effects that people can really realate to- Darwin Ortiz did an excellent job of this in Strong Magic. The effects he used to illustrate his points were mostly classic or well known effects in the cannon of modern close-up magic.
I would also love to see a book about Kreskin. When will he ~if ever~ tip some of his secrets. The magic fraternity owes him a big beautiful book of the kind that you produce.

He's another one...........a book on the Women Of Magic.
There's some great female magicians. I think that would be a great book! There would be nothing like it.It's long over due. |

Doug Edwards does a regular column on All Magic under the Magic Show banner. His column features a thorough instruction in basic magic with excellent illustrations. A compilation of those columns would be a tremendous addition to General Magic literature and would find a wide audience among Magic Café readers as well as others in the art. Good general magic books are not easy to find.

Todd,
You're most probably familiar with the book "Words About Wizards" written by Robert Parrish and published by David Meyer several years ago. As Robert Parrish wrote in his introduction: "Anecdotes about magicians of the past and descriptions of their perforamnces have always held great fascination for me. Here are notes on some remarkable people who flourished forty or more years ago." Imagine a book along similar lines. Each chapter of the book featuring a different magician: Chefalo Billy O'Connor Paul Fox Roy Johnson Gerard Majax Russell Swann Topper Martyn Ed Reno Paul Le Paul Jean Merlin ..and a multitude of others. I don't know how commercially viabale such a project would be, but I'd certainly purchase a copy.

The one book I really would love to have in my hands one day would be a big book on Fred Kaps from the Miracle Factory...
