Yeah. I'm a big fan of YouTube too. A lot of videos can be found there... but not much magic videos. I hope to see more magic videos in the future. Hoped that you guys can upload some to it. I would like to see more Asrah levitation videos, quickchange and dekolta chair.
I agree with macgyver. I would like to see voyeur too. |

Hi Todd!
Lot's of material, and great material. In my eyes, however it get's a little to confusing, with all the different unfinished segments mixed. My best advice would be only to break up one of the great illusions and keep the rest in a natural storyline and perhaps leave some of the "smaller" stuff out. A clever friend of mine who is currently serving in Irak for the Danish Military, use to say, "Keep it simple, stupid!". This I believe could be used here as well. NOT saying YOU are stupid but people generally "are", their focus could be anywhere while watching this, and for those who are not 100% focused and minded for magic, it may seem a little confusing. But again, great material!! |

I've been havin a lot of fun with youtube.com lately too...within 5 minutes, though, I found at least two videos of people flashing and revealing classic routines like there's no tomorrow...sometimes I wish there was a "smack some sense into poster" button on my computer...

Unfortunately I have noticed that there are a lot of amature magicians treating it like "magic video depot." And they are posting a lot of bad videos. And it makes magic look ugly. A lot of laymen comments are "I get it now," "you suck, don't do magic," "oh, that's how they do that..." It goes to show, don't show your magic unless you know what your doing. Also, you can't misdirect a camera.
Aside from that, I have been enjoying some of the hard to find professional videos like Copperfield, Burton, Cyril, and others. Brian |

You have a segment where you put a coin in your hand, then the camera angle changes and you show the coin gone. No. It screams "camera trick" even if it isn't! (It's even worse if in fact it isn't a camera trick and it looks like one.) There was a British SF show called "Blakes 7." In one episode, one of the characters did a Phantom Tube production. After showing the tube empty and reclosing it, they cut to a reaction shot of the group watching then back to the character who pulls all sorts of stuff out of the tube! The actor later said he was so mad because he'd taken the time and effort to learn to do the effect properly and everyone who commented on it said; "I suppose you couldn't do the real trick so they had to cut away to load the tube!"

Youtube is a good resource, it's free and easy to use. They do compress the videos so the original resolution is diminished. I posted some coin moves from my book 21st Century Coin Mechanics on Youtube. The originals were on my website and have better resolution. If you go to: http://www.geocities.com/larrybarnowsky/
and click the link for companion video CD you can view them on Youtube or directly from my website. Or just go to: http://www.geocities.com/larrybarnowsky/movieclips.html |

Todd,
Nice editing. I like the non-linear editing. Very modern. Is this truly a promo video, like to get work, or more for fun and friends? It looks a bit more like a music video than a promo video. Don't forget the three most important things in a promo video: reactions, reactions, reactions. Most of the time it seems you cut before people freak out, scream, applaud, laugh -- which I assume they do. Don't forget, it's not the revelation that's magic, it's the response. People who wnat to book you don't care if you can make a card do something, smash a light bulb, make things burn, or whatever. They want to see you entertain, and make magic. That is reflected in one thing: people's reactions. Try editing out more of your magic (and definitely the shots of walking down the street) and leaving in longer reactions after you've finished your magic(assuming they are big reactions). I think it's a great music video for friends, if that's more what you're after. Just my suggestion. Quote: On 2006-01-26 09:15, tpdmagic wrote: |

I might want to suggest the people on UTube describe their entries a little better. Just a little, please?
