Hello!
What are the options for Legs in deceptive bases? I ordered these legs from a local metal worker: But I have a multipurpose deceptive base and for some illusions I would like to have 4 short legs of about 12". If they would be made from wood... What kind of wood to support about 200 pounds? What would be the design of the legs? I appreciate all your advice. regards, Alejandro. |

In the past we have cut whatever shape leg we needed out of 1/4 inch aluminum plate. You can have the shaped legs welded to plates or corner brackets which can then be bolted in any number of ways onto the corners of your base / illusion.
Wooden legs are rarely a good idea. Make sure you use a large enough roller to avoid catching in small stage divots.

Your metal worker who fabricated the legs you pictured will be able to help you ensure the load strength. Sketch a design and work closely with them- a good metal worker can be an illusionist's best friend!

Alekei~
If you do decide to use wood get a good furniture wood. Cherry wood is ideal but it is expensive (at lease in VA). Most hardware stores will carry all sorts of wood that can hold 200+ lbs; a second idea is to use plywood, which normally comes in sheets that are 4' by 8' and in different thickness. If you get that you should have extra wood left over in case you make a mistake. Good Luck Eric R. |

I was after wood instead of metal because it is cheaper. But I don't know what kind of wood and what thickness would resist about 200 Lbs.
