The match goes out & there is no heat.
I do agree to what Steve said about altering something to fit your character or performing style, but I still wouldn't call it silly. Now, me doing sponge rabbits..............that would be silly! |

Stove, after the match is out the heat will be gone quickly. Also you can get saliva on your tongue. Better yet don't eat the match.

Simple French drop - why bother with a TT or extra baggage when all you need is a book of matches? No one's ever caught me - I have a pile of burned matches behind my couch.

I would have to agree with all who said "throw it on the floor." If you're seated, you might be able to find an excuse to set it on the table (perhaps to cool down for a second, "Whew! That was a close one, almost burnt my fingers.") and then simply lap it.
What?! How'd that get there?!

I use a simple vanish and lean in close and have the spec. blow on my hand. The "dirty" hand drops to my side and ditches as they blow.
I disagree with using a tt here....why use a gimmick if you don't need to. Now you will not only worry about vanishing the match, but loading and ditching the TT. |

Usually when I do this I am sitting on a table, either at a restaurant, bar etc...so what I do to vanish I use the laping technique, for this effect I think is the best, then when I stand up it falls tothe floor and I am all clean.
What?!

Daniel Garcia has a fantastic travelling match effect in his "NEXT" lecture notes, and I think it's also on his DGP vol. 3, it's called "No Smoking!"
If I'm correct it started out as a popular Japanese bar trick. It's pretty sweet though. Check it out. |

Lapping would be easy as well as effective

Sankey uses a ditch at his Lazarus effect, otherwise I would go for TT vanish. Especially if you work sorrounded or out in a daylight. Seeing ditched match after the effect would spoil magic moment.

Another way…after tearing out the match, I close the book, light the match and lay the book down. Have the spec make a wish and blow out the match while you are still holding it. Lay the match down with, but away from the matchbook. Ask them to pick one (using the magician’s choice, they pick up the book), and you (doing a fake take, sweeping the match off of the table onto your lap or floor) take the match. …Then on with the show!
