Last week, I got to try the new audio-technica AT892 MicroSet omnidirectional condenser headworn mic, and I liked it a lot!

• Tiny, profile. Smaller than the DPA 4065/4066/4067, about the same as the Countryman E6.
• MUCH more rugged than the E6.
• The “ear loop” is bendable, like a “Gumby” figure, and it stays in place much more securely than the E6.
• Adjustable to left or right ear.
• Includes a DPA-style “moisture guard” ring.
• Can be purchased pre-wired with a variety of connectors for a variety of beltpacks, or with bare ends.
• I think it sounds better than the E6, and not as good as the DPA, but then again, they all sound very good, even by “pro audio” standards.
• Available in black, beige & cocoa.
• Looks like the price is somewhere between US$275-US$350, depending upon which connector/wiring is needed.

Cheers from Toronto!

Thanks for the review. I've been considering getting the mic since it came out, but was never sure of it's quality. I plan on buying one soon.

Dan,
I recently purchaed the Audio-Technica earset that you're talking about. You are right it is great! I finally had to get rid of the giant black sponge ball headset that made me look like Garth Brooks in 1992. I paid about $300 for mine.

Best regards,

That's a great price. Thanks for the review. I've been eyeing the Countryman E6 for a while but it has mixed reviews for durability.

How is fitting on the ear? Does it fit like the countryman?

I have the countryman and love it but always looking .

Thanks

It fits a little differently than the Countryman. It goes kinda over and under one ear.

My personal favorite fitting mic is the DPA...it goes over both ears unlike the Countryman and A/T. Thus there is no pivoting than can happen occasionaly on the others.

Regardless...they are all good mics. Some excel in certain areas and lag in others.

Ken,
The AT fits more securely than the Countryman, and doesn't wobble nearly as much as the E6. As Kevin points out, all three have their relative pros & cons.
