Question??
do you perform close-up magic at a table of around 10-12 or more close-up to parlour. I could either do my close-up routines (walkaround type stuff, or a specific table routine. How does professors nightmare monte crispo (larry becker) bank night sound? |

PNM will play great in almost any situation. I have been doing walk around magic at Applebee's Restaurant and often perform PNM. What I like about the routine is spectators can examine the props and even those some distance away can watch. When I see tables farther away paying attention I know where to stop next for close-up magic.
I would also suggest some sponge ball routines. They play great for kids and adults especially women. They are very visible and can be seen by a number of people at a group of tables. I think even some coins across in the hands, silk magic and paper tears would fit the situation you describe. Have fun, Walking Bob in Iowa |

An idea that I got from Don Lawton years ago is to use a standard set of Chinese Sticks. I like the Adams unit. They fit into an inside jacket pocket and the basic routine plays big table to table or walk around.
Don was the Host at the Magic Castle for many years before his passing and his ideas are still terrific. Magic,Inc. in Chicago still publishes his book, Lots of Lawton and it is well worth the investment for routine ideas. Best,

For a table that size a couple of stand up, and more visible effects would be suitable.
Smaller, closeup effects are good when interaction takes place with one or two of the folks. Other's will have fun watching and feel involved as well. I'm not familiar with Monte Crispo but the others are OK. Go forth and entertain. |

Stand-up to parlor, yes! It sounds good, open with Bank Night, then the Monte Crispo, and close with the Professor.

Rope Effects are great for tables that size. You'll want something that's visible, obviously, but also something that can be enjoyed even if someone misses what you're saying.
Just a thought. Jamie D. Grant

I would also suggest a routine like Don Alans Card Stab routine with the paper bag and knife. You can certainly perform it stand up, almost completely surrounded, and there is really only one move...the rest comedy...

Godhandz,
Not to put this thread off track, but your photo is absolutely brilliant. Your look of concern and care for the sponge bunnies gives your magic an amazing level of thought, contemplation, and humour. Brilliant. Jamie D. Grant
