Angelo,
could you share the reasons with us? I have published more than 250 magic ebooks in the last 6 years and I don't know of any sufficiently important reason to stuff an ebook into an exe file. It is in my opinion unprofessional as well as counter productive. There is a large Mac and Linux community out there. I would be happy to help you with this, even promote your ebook and make it available for Mac users and all others who can't work with exe files. Best, Chris....

Also, I hope I was clear in that I was not accusing you or Mr. Fearson of anything. I was merely commenting that the .exe format is capable of including such things. As for embedding video, a terrific example of how to do this is Michael Close's newest ebooks. REALLY well done. I believe his are Quicktime rather than Flash.
Thanks for the prompt response. |

Just for the record, Michael Close got the idea from Lybrary.com's Card College 1 which has about 100 embedded video clips. Our work was even recognized with being finalist in the EPPIE's.

This has been thoroughly discussed in at least one other topic, I find it somewhat interesting.
How to make an ebook Obviously not everyone likes pdfs. An exe file runs with no additional software required. Because of that it would be the most compatible file with a PC. Works for me. Great trick Angelo! Rob Rob |

When I performed this the other day it went over great. Keep in mind that these are my friends so they see me do magic all the time.
I walked into the bar and joined my friends table. I was wearing a button down shirt under my jacket but the button down shirt wasn't buttoned. You know the look where you usually have a T-shirt under the open button down shirt. Anyway, when I took my jacket off they saw that I didn't have a t-shirt on. I acted embarrassed and stepped out the door for a second (Which was only about 5 feet away from the table). I'd imagine they thought I went out to get a t-shirt. AS soon as the door closed behind me I opened it again and came back in wearing a t-shirt. They where pretty surprised. One of them grabbed my outer shirt and pulled it down in the back. They probably thought it wasn't a real shirt or something. I'll be using this often. You have to be able to present it well but that's true for everything you perform. Ron Jaxon |

I've also purchased from Lybrary.com. Very compatible and piracy proof too. Great technology.

If you use a mac or run Linux, you get what you bargained for.
I'd run Linux except for the fact it wouldn't be compatible with half my software. I used to be a mac user but switched to pc for better compatibility. I find no problems with the PC. Windows XP never crashes. My mac did by the way. This certainly isn't the topic to argue this point though. It's cutting into a good discussion about Angelo's effect. Best regards- Rob |

Rob, I don't want to argue what is better, but you should acknowledge that there are many out there who do not use PCs whatever their reasons may be. Just to say exe is fine because you are happy with PCs is a bit ignorant in my opinion. I am trying to help out to make this great ebook available for everybody. That's all.

Ok you've convinced me.
I forgot how many people run Sun workstations. haha You should really be more respectful. I've never heard of you or your site before so you must not know too much about marketing. Try not to treat me in such a condescending manner. I'm far from ignorant. Rob |

Rob, what's so bad in making ebooks accessible for everybody, not just PC users? On this thread alone we had two or three Mac users who couldn't use exe files. For a publisher or retailer, this should be reason enough to do something. You as user don't need to worry, yes, but I as a publisher see this as an opportunity.
BTW, I rather focus my efforts on the best possible products and the lowest possible prices, than marketing. Eventually people will find Lybrary.com and will join the long list of satisfied customers. Just ask around here on the Forum. You will find many who support my efforts in bringing the best magic to you in digital form.

Ok here is the link to the second performance video where I do not leave the frame of the camera. It should be the last video on the right. I was holding it back for purchasers only but have decided to show it to all.
There are some other videos too on there. http://tboy2000.zippyvideos.com/gallery.z Best wishes Angelo

Unless you're just flicking the card away that card change looks really amazing.
Even if you are, it still looks amazing on video. Rob |

I just love this thread. Poor old Angelo has been battered around like a ping pong ball.
As I first raised the issue of MAC users and EXE files I feel I want to chip in once again to put more petrol on the fire. Everyone is right and everyone is wrong - that's what makes us all individuals. Chris disagreed with me over the Vernon book (another thread) but I agree with him on this. Then comes along Magic Spank who says "I've never heard of you or your site before so you must not know too much about marketing" LOL Chris was too much of a gentleman to reply and put Rob in his place. Then comes another gem "Obviously not everyone likes pdfs". Well not everyone likes exe files but I have yet to find a computer of any system that didn't have an Acrobat/Abode Reader installed. Someone else stated that Chris's products were "piracy proof". Wow hasn't he heard of the p2p programs like Limewire etc. Unfortunately magic piracy worldwide is a bigger problem than anyone realises and eventually creative people like Angelo and Jax will stop publishing their works - then we will all be the loosers. The only thing I agree with Magic Spank was when he said "This certainly isn't the topic to argue this point though. It's cutting into a good discussion about Angelo's effect" |

Filesharing of magic is a real issue. But a piracy protected PDF will open only on the machine for which it was purchased. Many must be viewed only on screen, or in an ebook reader, and cannot be printed. I suppose someone could hack it, but off the shelf, you'd be hard-pressed to successfullly share a copy-protected PDF.

Good news for Mac users here
As long as you have a new machine and a copy of XP, you're good to go. Or you can do what I did and buy Virtual PC. It will open protected exe files. |

I just dropped by this thread to post a similar article, you beat me to it.
So now macs run windows. It's about time I'd say. Rob |

Before I make my decision, may I ask a few questions on the effect?
1)How long does reset take? 2)Only "formal jacket" works? (Normally I work sport jacket, so I'd take it into consideration.) 3)Any limitation on the inside T-shirt? Thanks.
A novice't reflection: I like watching my audience's jaws drop, but sadly in reality I'm just too busy to enjoy it.

Hi Mouliu,
1) Reset takes 5 seconds out fo sight. 2) Any open jacket works including sports jacket, denim jacket, leather jacket, sports zip up top, tracksuit zip up top etc.. 3) The T-shirt should be quite loose although as you see in my second video it can also work with a more tight fitting top. Also does not have to be a short sleeved t-shirt but can also be a long sleeved one. May be more impressive with a long sleeve t-shirt. Any more questions please ask. Best wishes Angelo
