I was rushed a bit when I logged on last. I can't imagine someone reading all this, but for what it's worth...
I got bitten by the by the magic bug at seven (I'm 47 now - when did that happen?) because my dad could do one trick...make a penny disappear and pull it out of my ear. I got a magic set and it's been down hill ever since. I've been fortunate along the way enough to fall into the company of people who knew about the art and were willing to share...from Joe Berg as a kid to people like Earl Nelson, Larry Jennings and Vernon later on. Having benefited from the mentoring and friendship of others is one of the reasons I drop in on the board - perhaps I can give a little something back. My primary interest is non-card close-up magic, though I've dabbled in everything from mentalism to parlour magic (I just get to playing with things for the fun of it. I once came up with a hook up for the dancing cane where it would stand on the floor upright in front of you, take off on it's own and anytime in the routine, freeze in mid air, at a forty-five degree angle, so you could do a "dip" with it. I never used it...it was just something that got me tinkering). These days I generally like creating original effects and routines more than performing and I may put more of my ideas on the market if I get the time (like Stockholder, an idea I sold Gregory Wilson and Chris Smith). I work full time in radio producing radio infomercials, copy writing and other broadcast marketing so right now I'm primarily a magic hobbyist. I have, however, worked quite a bit over the years in private party walk around, restaurant table hopping, small stage and the Castle. I tend to be a behind-the-scenes kind of guy, though some of my material has found it's way into Richards' Almanac, the Magic Symposium series, The Looking Glass, Off the Cuff, Ring Leader, The Switch Book and other publications/videos. I am working on a few things at the moment…lecture material and magic created in collaboration with Gregory Wilson.

Mr Gripenwaldt,
Welcome to the Café! I am sure you will make a fine addition to this forum. I have thoroughly enjoyed much of your published work, for example your effect 'strong currency' from the Looking Glass and your ring change in the New York Magic Symposium, as well as your many other contributions.
