I recently lost a parakeet, he flew out my window.
I bought a new albino male, he is beautiful and seems quite healthy. But he is a little dirty, he was when I bought him but I overlooked it because he was quite the leader in the cage at the pet shop. I want to get him totally comfertable with me and then when he is I want to get him cleaned up, he is a smelly little one too. What kind of shampoo will be safe for him? Thanks in advance, DJ |

There are many good books on care out there for under $ 10.00 that will give you all the knowlege needed to keep your new friend safe healthy and comfortable.I would recomened getting one for the conveince of having reliable answers right at hand available.I understand your loss as I have owned and raised 7 budgies, Jim

Hey DJ,
I also have an albino parakeet. I call him Rocky. When I bought him he was in a large cage with about 50 other parakeets. They were all quite young (about 8 weeks old) and had their wings clipped. Rocky, like your parakeet, was also the the boss in his group. That's why I got him. I wonder if all the Albinos are dominant because of their color or lack of it,since they would be easier to prey on because they stand out more than the others. Anyway, it's just my theory! I've just started to vanish Rocky in a "Devil's Hanky" and he doesn't seem to mind cooperating. He even stays very still while in the hanky, I guess because it's dark in there. The only problem is that he takes the liberty of biting me whenever I hold him gently in my fist. Hopefully, he will get more friendly as he gets to know me better and trust me. This is my first time having a parakeet. However, I have used doves in my act for quite awhile. I have to say that Rocky is a lot smarter than my doves, on the other hand (bandaged), the doves never bite me. Mike p.s. I was sorry to hear that you recently lost Sammy.
Channing Pollack is my idea of the perfect magician. For those of you that have not seen him perform, I recommend trying to get hold of a video of an old movie called "European Nights" made about 1959.
I was able to buy this video from Stevens Magic |
