Your English is far better than my French. I think the reason for the seeming lack of popularity of the Indian style cups and balls has to do more with a cultural thing than any other reason. Generally, these are performed while seated on the ground, and that is not done much in the West. Also, there is no "nesting" in this kind of routine. However, there are still sets made for this type of routine. Morrissey still makes the Charlie Miller Indian Cups, and Viking also produces a set. There are also still wooden sets made in India. The Benson bowl routine will always have some popularity here, because of its connection to Don Alan. Takeshi Nemoto also published a routine for it in his Tokyo Trickery.

You are right, it is not easy to performe cross-legged on a carpet, in our western society. If I try to do that in France in the middle of the parisian streets, I am quite sure that a few minutes after the beginning of my session, the police will ask me questions!!! What do you think of performing this great trick on a low table, lower than people eyes of course, and sit on a little chair, it will be parlor magic, not close up magic. By chance I catch the Viking set before Georges stopped the production, I also got the Morryssey one, a very pretty one with an unusual shape, and really easy to carry in your pocket.I discover them on your website Bill. Recently I baught a lovely Tayade Senior set on ebay, compleete with the original box, with the price Label on, 10 balls the John Platt routine with Mister Tayade foreword, and the matching wand. The all set in mint condition, it numbered in each cup as the 30th set. The iridescent green wich is used on the knobs and on the wand is really a kind of beauty. As pretty to look, than to use. From the seller the story is that Mr Tayade himself brought this set in 1962 to the IBM convention, that is here that my seller got it.I would have never sold such an item!!! Happy for me he did it. You wake my curiosity up Bill, can you tell me more about this "Takeshi Nemoto" and his book? Thank you for your answer François |

The idea of performing the Indian cups on a low table is certainly workable.
I really need to see if I can find one of the Viking sets. I think a few dealers still have them. I'll have to check around. That's interesting about your Tayade set. Those are very nice cups. I just got a set of Tayade Sr. cups that I did not have at the MCA weekend. You are very fortunate to have the set you purchased on eBay. Most of the sets you see don't have all of the accessories. Takeshi Nemoto is a Japanese magician. I have seen him at several IBM conventions. He is a very nice man and a fine performer. His book Tokyo Trickery was published by Magic, Inc. It should still be available.

Remember the first step:
"We admit that we were powerless over Cups and Balls and that our lives had become unmanageable." The Cups and Balls addiction is just as just bad as the magic addiction. Both addictions are bad! I need to join both Magic Anonymous and Cups and Balls Anonymous. I fell off the wagon again, I was doing Cups and Balls...

Hello, My name is Stuart, and I am a cupsandballsaholic.
So much so lately that I find myself making drinks so as not to waste the lemons and limes slowly rotting in my bag. I seem to be purchasing lemons and limes twice a week these days. It all started when I was seven. I had the Adams Hocus Pocus set and I remember spending a long time looking for the trap doors in the red, yellow and blue cups. These days I just can't get enough of them.

Mr Palmer know cups, and is a great resource, I wish I has his collection. I knew Mr Garcia quite well, he used and recommended the Paul Fox Cups as Bill Palmer has said. I saw the junk Tannen's called the Garcia cups, they have nothing to do with Garcia or what he used, and I am sure it was all about money, not about quality. Frank was a class act, and used to come out with a small box, thinner than any cup could fit, he would place it on the table and then remove the cups from it to begin his routine. It was a classic, and I am not sure of the origin of many of his moves but they are in his Cups and Balls book now out of print but still around, worth reading for any serious student of Cups and Balls. One of Franks moves seldome seen is his Galloping Post Move. I took the time to learn all his touches, it was well worth it. Another good book also out of print regarding Chop Cups is the Mark Wilson Chop Cup Book. I was never sure whay this was not reprinted, it was a wonderful read. It had a great write up on final loads.

Why is that as soon as we get a new set of cups we want more of them?
Galloping post move is great as is the routine in Garcia's book. I saw him using R-n-T cups when he performed in 1980. Very nice person to talk to when he was here. Is there any write up for the cup production from either an empty bag or box? I know that Larry Jennings started his one cup routine by producing the cup. I saw the Latimer routine and liked that type of begining. Later, Mobius |

I have successfully gone two days without touching my cups, although in a few very short minutes I will be fondling them thoughtfully too be sure.
The hard part is there are far too many cups to choose from and not enough money at the moment for me...argh! why can't I win the lottery?! So I'm gonna go now to the cups and balls museum and drool all over my keyboard, not from the vast collection of most desirable cups, simply because the medication is kickien in! johnny

Ok, I'm clearly magically addicted. I just ordered a set of Paul Fox Minis in copper (which I need like a third armpit.)
I'm so excited I could pee. I want to go out and stand by the mailbox until they arrive. I hope I love them. In the pictures, they look adorable. Mini, but not too mini. I also like the idea of using a golf-ball. I have these styrofoam-ish practice golf-balls that are bright bright bright yellow. Ooooohhhh...I can't wait! Anyone have these? Are they everything you hoped they would be? -Daniel |

Well I too have been sucked into the obsession we call the cups and balls. Luckily, I am in the early stages of obsession, but it won't be long until I wake up in the middle of the street in my pj's doin the cups and balls.

Plums? No, there are three of them.
That third armpit is a great place to put a holdout.

I'm not sure if it's just me or not, but when I'm stressed out I bust out with my cups and run through my routine and magically my stress is gone.
There is no other trick that has this effect on me... anyone else? johnny
