Saw the new Harry Potter film today. A good, fun movie. If you don't like spiders, better not go, lol. Been a good year for spiders at the cinema, has 2002. Spiderman, Eight Legged Freaks and now this.
If someone doesn't like spiders AND snakes the film offers a double whammy! Another good film to look out for not yet with a release date in the USA is 28 Days Later, a Brit horror flick about a nasty virus. http://www.28dayslaterthemovie.co.uk Paul. |

Took my 9 year old to see Harry 2 last weekend and it was surprising how two and a half hours just flew by.
Interesting to spot the influences on J K Rowling. The Dursleys would not look out of place in a Roal Dahl book, a school for witchcraft - Worst Witch stories, for Dumbledore, read Gandalf, etc. I have to say that filmwise The Lord of the Rings still rocks.

I saw the movie. I thought it was definitely scarier than the last one. And Paul is right- If you don't like spiders and snakes, don't go!

Just had a related after thought. There is definitely an upsurge in the number of fantasy/magic related films (we know how Hollywood bandwagons soon get rolling), but has this interest in the fantastic been reflected in the professional world of magic? Are magicians more in demand? As a hobbyist only, I'm not in a position to tell, but I seem to detect more boxes of magic tricks in the stores (and obviously a shed load of HP items) so suppliers obviously feel there is more interest amongst the young.

I think there has been a definite increase in the interest in magic, both among the non-magician and magician worlds. Magic tricks are being mass marketed to non-magicians. More and more people are seeking out boards like this to discuss and share the art, and the hype level is definitely higher than it was even a year or two ago.
