I need help with my minidisc.

Is there a way to record a copy of the content I have recorded on a HI-MD disc to my computer, so I can add songs later, or change them, and make a copy back to MD?

I know you can do this with the Sony SonicStage software, but it limits the number of copies I can make, plus there are things I need to do that SonicStage will not allow.

Labeling all that I need is a daunting task to say the least, so I am hoping to find a way to transfer everything, including the song and group titles, so I can easily make copies that and arrange different discs for different shows.

For example, I would like to make at least 5 disc copies of all my show and preshow material, but once I make a copies with SonicStage, editing is limited.

Also, I am not sure you can record on anything but PCM mode. (I need HI-SP)

I have tried to transfer my songs to Musicmatch Jukebox and Winamp, but I cannot get it to add to them my playlist(S). This may be because of ATRAC, I'm not sure. I guess I need to study a little more about MD. I am still learning, but there is so much to learn about them.

If anyone can help me I would be most grateful.

Thank you.

I am no recording engineer, but I have a minidisc recorder, and I have played with many recording formats in my old jamband taping days.

I would not be surprised to find trouble manipulating digital files with minidisc and a PC. In fact, when I first tried to even connect the two, I couldn't find a digital cable to do a thing. Basically even a minidisc to minidisc copy goes through an analog generation in the process.

All I would know to do is use the stereo out to sound card with an 1/8 inch to 1/8 inch, and record files as if they were live mic inputs or something. Then you have a clean transfer, but a file without a digital signal.

This was anything but helpful, but like I said, I think the format is inherently difficult.

Regan,
I found a way to fake out the Sonic Stage and make unlimited copies of my songs. It involves an extra step but it is worth it. I can even export songs that are marked as no-copy. I use a program called Audacity. It's inexpensive and allows you to create and edit multi track recordings. I open a blank file and the open the file I want to upload. I copy the file into the blank file and save it under a new name. So right off the bat Sonic Stage allows me three copies. You can do this over and over again so you never need to worry about that stupid three-copy restriction.

Thanks Rev.

Don't think your idea isn't helpful. I'm willing to try anything.

My minidisc has a USB cable to transfer to PC, but I can't have any luck at all. With the 1/8" phone plug, I can't get my PC to even recognize my MD. I have not tried it through the microphone jack though.

My minidisc has an optical input, but I wish they would make a minidisc with optical inputs and outputs so the analog could be eliminated.

Thanks again. I'll give it a try.

I guess I don't understand the problem. I burn a cd of my songs and then just copy it to minidisc.

I keep the songs unedited and edited on cd's or the computer so if I need to reedit them. Several of my pieces are from old lp records so I don't want to have to reload them all the time.
